Need a deal check - VW Atlas Cross Sport - MN

I am nearing the end of my 2nd lease with Volkswagen. I have 2 months remaining and have reached out to two local dealerships to discuss options for leasing again.

Currently in a 2024 Atlas Cross Sport, 17k miles, SE with tech. I pay $599/month for 7500 miles/year. 36 months.

Looking at 2026 Atlas Cross Sport, same trim or SEL. 7500-10000 miles/ year. 36 months.

The proposals are below. I feel like I am being screwed over. What do you think?

mn volkswagen Ask the Hackrs

Leasehackr Forum.

Because you are. If you want to pay over MSRP then by all means, sign. Otherwise run far away

The screenshots don’t show the MSRP of the vehicle(s), so we can’t tell what kind of dealer discount there is, but regardless $1K/mo is appalling for an Atlas Cross Sport.

Use the Leasehackr Calculator to build out a target deal for yourself and then make offers with the 10+ VW dealers in MN to see who’ll bite.

If you ask a dealer how much they want you to pay, don’t be surprised when they tell you.

The only place worth starting here is to take the time to establish a well-resesrched target deal so you know where you should be.

Let’s look at the first proposal listed (987.80). MSRP = RV/RF = 30941.84/.58 = 53348.00. Sell price = 51483. Therefore, dealer discount = 1865.00 or 3.5% off MSRP which looks very weak to me. The MF = .00280. According to …

MN Sales Tax

looks like the MN sales tax of 2529.04 is inaccurate. Sales tax rate = 6.875%. The taxable base (total lease price) = 31716.05. Therefore, the sales tax = 31716.05 x 6.875% = 2180.48, not 2529.04 reflecting a difference of 348.56. The Net Cap should be reduced by this difference to get 57231.01. The new monthly payment is…

.00280 x (57231.01 + 30941.84) + (57231.01 - 30941.84) / 36 = 977.14 which is about 10 lower.

Bottom line… this is not a good deal. As @michael recommends, create a target deal and then, construct a one-page professional lease proposal… Here’s an example…

Your proposal will be different. One reason is the taxes in Ohio are calculated differently than in MN.

??? Let me know.

My advice would be to take a step back and rethink your plan. For the money they’re proposing you could lease a Mercedes GLE, a Lexus GX, or a dozen other vehicles. When trying to hack a lease, you need to not focus on a specific car, keep your options open, and you’ll find some amazing deals on incredible vehicles.

Just peruse the pre-negotiated deals or look up a broker in your market area to help you through the process.
