So, you’re saying that I am overthinking the transport from CA to AZ? And she should just drive back and just take the 500 mile hit to the annual mileage total, yeah?
If youre talking about a cheap lease, youre probably talking about a vehicle that has a lease overage of around $.25/mile. So worst case scenario, that hit costs you all of $125.
How many thousands of dollars in savings are you trying to give up by staying local to avoid paying $125?
A much bigger worry if you’re shopping in CA to drive back to AZ is navigating the need to pay CA registration if you drive it off the lot.
Cars being transported on a flatbed have to be registered? But yes, shipping is least desirable. She could fly to CA, stay with friends, get the car and drive back. This would be ideal.
Here are the details on the one day tag. The only part that is worrisome is their choice of wording where it says “must be obtained by volume”… though I am sure the dealer can set me up with a one day transport tag.
New question: Would I have to pay sales tax in CA and then again in AZ?
In lieu of California registration, you can get a one trip permit (for a fee) to move a vehicle:
When unladen, for one continuous trip from a place within California to a place in or outside California or from outside California to a place in California (by the most direct route).
A one trip permit is also valid for a nonresident:
To move a newly purchased trailer coach into California.
A one trip permit cannot be used to move a crane or trailer coach owned by a California resident.
Blank one trip permits may be purchased in volume from any DMV office.
Issuing a one trip permit doesn’t affect California tax requirements. For sales and use tax information, contact the Board of Equalization (BOE) at www.boe.ca.gov or 1-800-400-7115.
Thanks @mllcb42. It sounds like targeting SoCal for an EV, or at least SoCal, is the way to go. I will check with her to see what she’s eligible for on the tax rebates.
Sorry. Some time has passed since I leased my EV. I thought rules changed quite a bit… but now that I think it through the rule changes were on the production side, and second hand purchases, but not on leases.
There are a number of good Nissan dealers in AZ and “cheap leases” are kind of Nissan’s specialty. Have you even started looking around? I don’t see why you need to get a car from out of state, or even an EV, if your only requirement is cheap.
@z0lt3c The WEST marketplace is stale with no new ads. Clutch only had luxury listings… And autocompanion emailed me back asking for my budget. What makes LH a great place is that the deals don’t ask for budget but are listed so you don’t have to run the numbers through the calculator. I suppose her budget is under $300 all in but again, would be great to review offers.
TLDR: The AZ dealers/brokers don’t seem to advertise on here regularly. or, I simply don’t know where to look.
My point was more-so that you don’t really need a broker to buy a Nissan in AZ. Just goto cargurus and search for lowest price listings in your area. Here is a listing from Peoria Nissan for a 24 Altima S at 14.8% off MSRP.
Here is a rough calculator, given this discount. Note- I am not familiar with the fees and taxes for your area, so these are estimated-
It works out to ~$276/mo with $1260 due at signing (pre-tax). You can also reach out to the dealers in Pheonix and Mesa, amongst the three try to work out the best price.
