In the market for a 2023/2024 C300 for purchase and wondeting what sort of discount off MSRP should I be targeting? Anything close to 10% or more ? Or should I shop for BMW or Audi comparable cars?

Don’t expect the same discount on the model that’s newest though.

For a Mercedes if we are first negotiating discount off MSRP will dealer cash (as reported by Edmunds) that is only available for a lease gets applied on top of the discount we have already agreed off MSRP? For example, dealer is offering $5K off MSRP (and at this point I have not let them know whether I am doing purchase or lease). After I agreed to their initial discount then I can let them know I want to lease and than the dealer cash (i.e. $1000) is added to total discount which would be at $6K now? Of course dealer cash will be taxed in my state.
Just sure you get both discounts in your cap and make sure you know all the numbers and have calculated your target payment in the LH calc.

Unless you specify otherwise, then if you just ask a dealer for a quote whatever they send will most likely have all incentives already baked in.
Also on something like a C300 it seems unlikely that a $1k incentive is only for a lease, but who knows.
But this kind of back and forth game with dealer is a huge waste of time, not telling them whether you want to lease or buy, trying to see if you can get the incentives added on to whatever quote they sent, etc.
You’re much better off to just research the Marketplace, as noted above. Put together a target deal using the LH calculator, then make the dealer an offer.

Move to a strategy of making offers.
Plug the following into the LH calculator after MSRP of the vehicle you’re looking at:
Selling price based on % pre-incentive discount found by searching Shared Deals and Marketplace sections of this forum.
RV, MF and incentives (lease cash) from Rate Findr. Add any extra rebates you qualify for (college grad, etc) under incentives.
DMV fees and taxes based on your state’s official website.
Voila! Now check the box to make it $0 DAS and offer the resulting monthly payment*
- preferably rounded to a multiple of $5 or $10 to make yourself seem more like a normal person
