I’m going to be moving from New York City to Nashville in August. Do you think it’s better to make a deal in NY or a deal in TN after the move? Curious if anyone has done this?
Thanks!

If you make a deal now, you’ll have to deal with the ramifications of taxes in TN (and from what I understand, NY won’t refund you what you paid upfront in taxes), as well as plate transfer and associated fees with that. I also highly doubt there is a reciprocity agreement regarding tax in TN, so you’ll be getting taxed there in all likelihood as well.
Personally, if you know you’re moving and can wait, I’d just hold out for a couple months to avoid the extra headache with the dmv and captive
Thanks, greatly appreciated!
Had a friend in a similar situation. Ultimately they decided to purchase to avoid being taxed again. There were other factors too, such as long warranty, cheap financing, 5-6yr ownership more appealing than haggling again in 2-3 years, projected resale value holding up relatively well, etc.
That makes sense thanks @max_g
If you can wait to register it in TN that would be better for you as they have said above.
That said you may be able to get a better deal in NY at that time. So wait until you can register in TN then shop both NY and down south for the better deals at that time.
Appreciate all of the feedback @Carfuffle
