Model 3 Lease Discussion (May 2019 program)

Hi there,

Has anyone leased one yet? I heard on a podcast yesterday that someone leased a long range one for 3k down, 399 month. is that right? Any better deals??

Thanks.

Which podcast?

That sounds like an employee deal. Tesla employees get the finance charge on a lease refunded to them in their paychecks.

Tesla just updated their lease rates on Model 3. SR+ starts at $399/month albeit with $4,500 down now as opposed to $3,000. That’s still a lower effective net cost so they must have improved the residual or money factor.

(The calculator won’t let you put less than $4,500 down but Tesla only requires the $2,500 order payment as a down payment.)

That must be an employee deal or a car with a showroom adjustment.

I went to Tesla today not knowing about the new lease terms til I got home. The manager there told me they have new higher residuals and gave me a breakdown for a model 3 standard range plus. This particular model had the blue paint which is $1000 extra. The payment was $539 with 7% sales tax included, 36 months 10k miles ~3000 out of pocket including the 2500 order payment. So 2500 for order payment and $522 due at delivery. The MF listed here is .002413

I was just going through the Tesla site to run some numbers and noticed they now have an option to look at available inventory instead of just ordering directly. Even a Model 3 AWD Long Range with 3 miles on it is listed at about a $6k discount and about $100 less on the lease to a comparable custom order.

I’ve heard in a few videos online that you can also probably negotiate a bit on price with Tesla via their phone(edit) sales support versus the store for vehicles in inventory.

Maybe. It was Alex Roy who did it but info coming 3rd hand from Matt Farah. I think it was probably the standard range plus and I assume it was this program that you can find on their web siet:

That’s still $643/mo adjusted.

We dig into the Model 3 lease program Leasehackr style!

Let us know what you think of our revamp!

That $2500 Order Payment is part of the down. For my zip and with my local rebates the monthly with 0 down equivalent would be $505…still crappy but not as horrible as before.

Gotcha, those numbers were kind of confusing.

Yes, I don’t know why they post them that way.
Was playing with the rebates and credits and in order to get close to 1% rule you need to be low income…$450/mo…any takers…lol.

Low income?

Great story @michael!!!

This is not too bad if you factor in getting low-income $4,500 CVRP in california. Considering the running cost of the car will save you about $1,750 in annual fuel costs for 15,000 miles (source EPA below) compared to a 2019 BMW 330i. On Youtuber calculated it cost him $500 in electricity to go 26,000 miles so…

BMW 330i Fuel cost 36 months/10k = 11.66 cents per mile x 10,000 miles = $1,166 x 3 years = $3,500

Telsa Model 3 Electricty cost 36 months/10k = 1.92 cents per mile x 10,000 miles = $192 x 3 years = $576.92

So you’re saving $2,923.07 over 3 years which equals $81.91 per month off the lease compared to a gas car in the same class.

I need to block this thread, it has now made me obsessed with getting a Tesla haha. Losing out on 3k by not pulling the trigger last year makes it all that much harder…a lot of compelling arguements in here. Listened to one of the latest Rogan podcasts where he had the Tesla Renegade builder on…they described the car as surreal.

You didn’t lose anything. Tesla lowered prices to compensate for the tax credit expiring.

Is really the gas in your area $3.50? Today traveling from Upland to Anaheim and i saw nothing under $4…that’s over $1300.
As for electricity, if you go on the ev plan under Edison you charge at 12c so about $312 per year for the 3 SR.
If you play your cards right you have a $1k/year arbitrage to play with.

You need to meet certain household income requirements to be eligible for the $4500 rebate. I’m guessing most folks leasing a Model 3 do not qualify. Standard is $2500.
