Model 3 Lease Details released

Hum, I called my insurance company yesterday (Ameriprise) about insuring a Tesla Model 3 Performance model. It was cheaper than my i3. I also got a quote for a M3 CS, and it was also cheaper than my i3. Go figure…

Maybe it’s time to switch providers? Farmers have a ev discount in Ca.

Took delivery of the car (Model 3 Standard Plus) this morning. Had a protrusion in the rear bumper and a blotchy spot on the rear three-quarter. Delivery advisor took note and added the defects to a due bill. I then stopped by the service center, who saw the defects right away, to get a timeframe for repairs. Service center told me they outsource bodywork to a body shop.

We’ll probably return the car tomorrow, wait for the refund, and reorder another. It might take a few weeks, but who knows how long the body shop will take, and we still have the i3 around to drive.

The car itself is fantastic. Love driving it, and no issues otherwise to report. Shame about the QC.

QC issues seem to be the primary complaints from folks regarding the car. Still, some of that stuff isn’t pretty out of control considering the significance of the car to Tesla.

How much money are they losing on poor QC and taking back cars?

The QC issues are what’s shied me away from purchasing a Tesla. I’d short term lease one at a reasonable price though to see if it could work for me in the long term. (Already have L2 charger installed at home — Work adding one would let me take a shorter range version however)

I would think not that much…i bet most will take it to service and be on their way. Were they lose is when the word gets out about these issues and new customers may be cautious about their future purchase.

Michael, can you post a photo of the damage?

They should be losing a lot, then, because the word is out in poor QC.

Tesla just started another round of fund raising for 2 billion, I think. Musk has predicted they would be at profitability by the point. Something is costing them money beyond just Model Y and Tesla Semi production.

Some of that cost is Musk running his mouth. Demand isn’t nearly as robust in the 49 states not named CA either. There’s only so many people that can afford a 50k+ car too.

Musk has predicted a ton of things. Most have not come on time and some have yet to come to fruition.

More than half of that net worth is tied into the share price of Tesla.

Demand for Tesla also plunged off of a cliff in Q1.

Still waiting on that driverless ride across America, it was supposed to happen in early 2017, no?

They also would never need to raise capital again. Weren’t they supposed to go private with the funding secured at $420 a share? If I’m remembering properly, I also believe they’d never have another losing quarter again, we heard that in late 2018, right before they lost $750mm in early 2019.

Very credible guy.

Hi @michael
That’s super interesting, I wonder how returning a car that you got a loan for works.
At least it is not registered yet with the DMV or is it?
Body work shops Tesla approved are backed up, and parts take forever. So smart move!
When I got mine a year ago (shops were less busy) it was having a bad paint job rear bumper (white car, common) it took 1 month to get it done then front bumper was damaged by the shop, so that had to be repainted as well (another month). Luckily I got to drive a Model S and did a few road trips in it… :stuck_out_tongue:

I think this is a prime example of the disconnect our society has. He is a Scientist and the idea of electric cars, tunnels to assist with overpopulation and crowded roadways, solar panels to name a few, should be celebrated. His efforts I believe should be funded by the people for advancement in society, as opposed to bashed because a scientist is trying to act like a businessman. Many would say well then put him in the R&D department where he belongs not in the forefront of the company…but why can’t he be both. I think we as a society have found much more worthless ways to burn through money than funding someone who is working towards the betterment of all…just my two cents, maybe instead of bailing out GM and the likes the 80 billion could have been diverted to innovation in companies like Tesla…but hey what do I know let’s bash him over 2b.

Your post makes a lot of sense, but lacks and is wrong in one area:

The skills of a CEO & scientist are not the same. The man is obviously brilliant, but lacks the skills of a leader of a publicly run company, while being too arrogant to take advice on how to be one. As the fanboys wake up to this, Tesla will come under immense pressure.

Agreed…but do you want your scientist to be arrogant and push the envelope or hide in the shadows while his research gets shelved, because some money manager thinks it’s not profitable. I used to be a sales rep in the pharma industry, I heard a rumor that bounced around for years. A Goldman Sachs analyst asked a group of scientists who were very close to a cure for Hep C…” Is curing people really a profitable and sustainable business model?” So I will keep my scientists at the forefront of company, curing and pressing forward.

I’m not knocking his innovation. I’m knocking his entirely too often deadlines that aren’t kept/met, as a salesmanish way to beef up his stock price. I guarantee, if you or I were that wrong on deadlines at our jobs, we’d be out on the street looking in.

Excellent salesman and innovator. Absolutely terrible at keeping a deadline. He’s just not credible in that sense to me anymore. First thing I thought when he said “profitable moving forward at every quarter” last year at the end of Q3…”yeah, ok.” Sure enough…

Look at all of those people that paid for FSD, giving Tesla a free loan, and we’re still waiting for that promised trip cross country from 2 years ago.

Man you really like the kool aid?
