Mercedes Lease and Term Protection

Hi Hackrs!
I had a question regarding the Mercedes maintenance plan and Term protection.
For the typical 30k (3 services) maintenance plan it’s pretty straight forward. My question is more regarding the First Class Term Protection (explanation link listed below). From what I see this covers parts such as brakes, belts, etc. For a 36/12k lease is this necessary? I figured if you purchase the maintenance plan, there is nothing out of pocket you should be paying for. If brakes do need to be changed, is that where this term protection would kick in?

Have any of you had experience using this term protection?
I’d appreciate any feedback!

Nothing is really necessary. The maintenance plan can be discounted and residualized so it becomes a decent deal. Not sure about the First class one but realistically we never got it and had no issues.

Thanks for the reply. I did get the maintenance package residualized so that’s good. Yea I feel it’s a little unnecessary, good to hear you’ve had no issues.

I’ve had 4 MB’s consecutively always got out early with pull ahead so never had any need for the items covered under the term protection, even when buying the pre-paid maintenance usually only go for 2 because car is usually back to dealer before #3, or just after and when getting another was never questioned about getting it done. On our most recent 2017 C43 I did have to replace the rear brakes, $650 and at only 18k miles.

Good to hear Phillie! Now on the C43, did you have the maintenance plan? If so, then that would pretty much answer my question on if brakes are covered or not (through the general maintenance plan).

Yes we had the pre-paid maintenance plan. Brakes are not included.

I appreciate the info!

Do people usually buy these plans? It’s a lease. Take it to an independent mechanic

When its residualized, its not too bad. Plus the convenience of a loaner car is also nice.

Is the price for MB and BMW for these plans set by corporate or can one negotiate with a dealer?

For Audi Care, dealers are not able to offer any discount as rate set by corporate.

Corporate puts a price, but it is negotiable and you can (for Mercedes at least) have it residualized so you don’t pay the full amount. The regular 30k mile maintenance package is around $1,100, but if you have the dealer residualize it you end up paying less.

@JamesBond Hope you don’t mind me quoting you but I found one of your previous replies very helpful!

That should help explain.
