Negotiating with a dealer by email. They were willing to identify the total discount off MSRP but refused to disclose what portion of that is incentive. I know for a fact that the national incentive is $1250 for the GLC from Edmunds. The dealer said that they’re “not allowed” by Mercedes to disclose incentive money. This sounds like a bunch of BS to me. Thoughts?
Find a different, more transparent dealership
That is absolutely incorrect lol, this dealer does not deserve your money. A breakdown of sale price is standard to ask for and should be shown to you, ask for this or hit the road with another dealer.
Thanks for your reply! It sounded like such a ridiculous canned line but I had to check! They said that incentives were not customer facing. Seems like they don’t want to disclose what the actual discount is…
They will present that as a Dealer Incentive. No reason to ask them about the incentive when you can research on Edmunds. Let them know the selling price or the discount % that you are expecting. The negotiation starts at that point if the sales guy wants to convert your offer into a sale.
Thanks for your advice. I was asking them to break down their listed price by MSRP, discounts and incentives. This is where the roadblock came up where they said they couldn’t disclose what portion of their price included incentives and implied that there were non public incentives.
Now the dealer is claiming that since the car is a loaner, national incentives do not apply and that the Courtesy Vehicle Program incentive is confidential. Is this true? Also, does the PenFed bonus apply when the car is a loaner? Thanks to everyone for your help!
