Mercedes c300 Lease End Engine Light

Hi

I am returning my Mercedes c300 lease but 5 days before my return I got a check engine light appear. I took it to the shop they wiped the code but it reappeared after 30 minutes and after inspection, he found one of the pieces of the engine needed replacing(I forgot the name of the part). He said it would be $200 to fix but I’m wondering if the engine is covered under my lease warranty and would I be charged for the Engine if it is and I don’t repair it before returning the lease.

Please advise, do you think there will be a charge? if so should I go to the Mercedes service center, would they charge? Or should I go to my local mechanic to fix it?

Thank you guys in advance.

Why wouldn’t your engine be under warranty? How long was your lease? New or loaner when leased?

Get it fixed at the dealer.

You will need to have it repaired. Are you still under warranty?

What code is it and what is the repair? New sensor or filter? $200 to have anything done on a Mercedes is in the low side. Let’s make sure this isn’t a $50 sensor & a YouTube tutorial type fix before going to far down a rabbit hole.

Why wouldn’t a check engine light be covered under MB’s 4 yr/50,000 mi basic warranty?

This is my thought also. The car was leased as a loaner. But I’m way under 50k miles. And haven’t hit the 4 years. I thought engines are covered under the warranty.

I will get the code tomorrow and provide it here.

Does Mercedes charge just to check even if it is a lease?

AutoZone, Pep Boys, Oreilly’s etc…will let you use a scanner in their parking lot. Then Google whatever the code is and that should get you pointed in the right direction.

Are you within 4 years of the warranty in service date? You will hit that prior to hitting 48 months on your lease.

Yes I’ve had the lease for 3 years the car is a 2020

I will go to auto one tomorrow to get the code

Doesnt matter how long you have had it. How long has it been since the warranty in service date? With loaners, the warranty clock starts ticking before you get it.

The car is a 2020 so it’s only been 3 years

Most MY20 vehicles starting selling in 2019.

Yes, if you read your lease agreement and turn-in documents, it will say no error lights (or something to that effect) on return.
The charge can be significant, depending on the issue, and that’s why you’d want to make sure everything is ok (or meets expectations) at turn-in.

I turned in my BMW with warning lights on, didn’t get charged. Dealer probably happy they got paid for Parts and labor also. YMMV but if you didn’t mod the car or do anything outrageous, you should be ok

Don’t waste your time going anywhere but a Mercedes dealership. Your warranty covers virtually anything mechanical aside from your negligence or damage for the length of the warranty. Being a lease doesn’t change anything.

You’re way overthinking this.

Of course your engine is covered, assuming you’re still under warranty then taking your car anywhere but the dealer is a complete waste of time.

Who cares what the code or fault is, take it to the dealer and let them fix it.
