Mercedes Benz EQS Lease Superthread - 2

Maybe I should just lease an ioniq next :upside_down_face:, actually even ioniq is 18 inches+…

Get the new XRT trim, it has 18 inch all terrain tires and something like a 0.9 inch lift too

Hi Guys - Looking for some advice on a cracked windshield for a 24’ EQS450 sedan with 300 miles and 2 days driving on it. No road hazard impact that I’m aware of so that’s why I’m wondering if it’s reasonable to consider manufacturer defect. There is no discernable impact point visually or physically when I run my finger along the crack damage.

I’ve taken the car to two MB dealerships for their opinion. One couldn’t find an impact point, and the other pointed to a point in the center of the close-up image. That point is a little “whiter” like a chip point, but it seems its from the underside of the glass visually, and by touch, there’s no divot feel.

Anyway, thanks for any offered advisement. I understand it’s my responsibility and problem even if it’s not my fault. Appreciate it

It’s hard to tell from the images but you could try contacting MB corporate since you’ve already been to the dealers.

Separate but related, the dealer I got mine from tried to sell me insurance to prioritize windshield replacement because MB was apparently having issues stocking them last year. I don’t know if they are still having issues but you may run into a wait for the windshield.

Most of the time the manufacturer will fight it and claim it as damage. I had something similar with one of my previous Porsche’s. I never noticed any impact while driving, and couldn’t find anything on the crack that looked like impact. They wouldn’t cover it.

Try running a ballpoint pen along the crack, may help discover any potential impact marks. Is that one there?

Yes, potentially. But its similar to the other potentially point. It’s “whiter” so it looks like it may be an impact point, but there is no divot upon touch and the white is more on the underside.

Also, that spot is really deep under the hood. Basically at a point that is mostly covered by the wiper too, when the wiper isn’t pulled up like I have for the photos. I guess anything can happen, but that’d be a fairly physics defying rock to make that southern turn below the hood lip and around the wiper.

I appreciate the insight. I’m going to see if MB corporate will consider my case but I’m going in with the reality that it’s likely going to be an insurance claim in the end.

The MB shop said windshields are about 7-10 days to arrive upon order.

Yeah it sucks, but I’d plan on it being an insurance claim…especially if there are white points. My instance had no white marks, chips, nothing. Just a clean, clear, small crack that ran about 5-6”.

I just PPF’d my E53 windshield today. I have worst luck on windshields.

You are probably stuck with the bill on this one sadly. My GLE63s windshield was like $2800 installed.

Can you believe Mercedes gave this person a new windshield? On a CLA? Times have changed.

That is pre-covid when times were better and MB actually ponies up. BMW is only company who actually stands behind their cars without making clients wait. @brunot99 is going to have to wait 6 months before getting any resolution once his car is fixed. BMW would have paid his car note, and force dealer to give better loaner. BMW forced my dealer to give up a used X7 off their lot to give me since it is in same category as the car I have. I told them it is fine, I will be fine with a iX since it is already in a loaner fleet.

Seconded BMW’s exemplary customer service. Only good experiences with both retail and corporate. Unfortunately, I can’t necessarily say the same for Mercedes-Benz.

Yup. I told BMW rep that even your cars are garbage but your CS makes up for it. MB/Audi are just terrible to work with.

I called MB about my EQS being in the shop close to 30 days… rep was like “we don’t buy back or lemon cars due to a trim piece, dealer has to help you in that”. My sunroof rattles like a lawn mower…I feel like it will shatter at any moment. Many EQS owners have experienced this too but no resolution from MB.

How is this deal compared to current market?

New 2024 $110k awd with fleet. In CA with 9.63% taxes

Actually not a bad idea, the front looks a little ugly though. My X7 came with off road package from previous owner with steel undercarriage protection. Always wondered why would anyone get this on a car you are like never going off road with, but actually it’s a good idea given road condition.

ship it here chan will fix it.

Do I want it fixed is the problem now… LOL

Chan can also drive your EQS and get the insurance company to cure everything.

Lol, he was super proud he figured out how to fix the rattle without the StarTek TSB or any actual guidance from MB. You should send your car out here to see if he can fix.

Maybe a Maybach goes back on the transporter instead of the EQS? :eyes:

If you can’t fix it with Duck tape and WD-40, it ain’t worth fixin’.

OTOH, @djrabbi can make it a West Coast trip and meet all of us in person.
