Mercedes Benz EQS Lease Superthread - 1

I think there’s much more to it than that.

I very much fit this description, but I still don’t want an EQS at any price.

Imho interior is fine, they need to work on the exterior. Make it sleek n sharp instead of current aerodynamic egg shape.

I loathed the interior too.

Most of the voice commands didn’t work at all, and I only resorted to those because even the most basic controls are poorly embedded in the screens, which make them really distracting to use.

The MB logo pattern that’s scrawled over several surfaces was appropriated from those gauche Louis Vuitton bags.

And the dozens of LED light strips are only alluring if you’ve never taken Ecstasy and visited a bordello.

Yeah, tesla sets the standard on all screen function, recessed door handles, etc and it’s frustrating to see other legacy manufacturer try to copy that. This is why I appreciate my eqb more, it still has all the physical buttons, regular door handle. Imho if they just retrofitted s-class with battery, they probably have more success than the current eqs.

I want the big motor but not the big screen. I don’t care about screens generally and the big screen also has a huge cowl over the IP that blocks half the view outside the windscreen. Just LOL that anyone would pay $9k or whatever it costs to get it as an option.

I didn’t really love the Taycan either, and in retrospect I can see how that was also at least partially due to the over-reliance on screen controls, but there are enough hard buttons for common items in the e-tron GT that I could make it work.

I was actually looking for an S580 around the same time they started giving away EQSs (which prompted my test drive and the ensuing, eternal revulsion).

Except for the letter S, there’s really nothing S about the EQS. :snake:

As in “good standard” ? I hate pretty much every single Tesla thing in “legacy cars”, not because they don’t copy Tesla good enough, but because these things are stupid to start with. Stupid door handles, too much reliance on screens, giant non-opening glass roofs, etc, etc.

Yeah, if they want to copy tesla, they should copy the digital key, the camera n sentry mode, their supercharging network, and tesla apps.

not having much luck making offers tbh. Sent offers to 3 dealers on Friday and they are all like “I know what I got”.

U may want to wait until mid-march to get the end of quarter close out.

That’s probably around the time 2023 model year lease support is going to end from MBFS as well.

But one thing that is working against buyer’s right now is that the unicorn deals from last year relied on a massively propped up resid and basically zero MF from MBFS. I don’t think they can do that type of offer any more. Real life residual experience is coming in way worse than anyone could have fathomed in early 2023.

Legacies should get better at making EVs in general. I think they will. Whatever comes after EQS, will most likely be a much better EV. As far as special Tesla features go, the less they copy, the better.

Bluetooth based “keys” are a horrible idea for variety of reasons. Look at stories of people getting into random Teslas and driving them away without realising it wasn’t theirs. Apple’s UWB based car keys are so much better. Sadly BMW has been the only one offering Apple car keys for many years, but Mercedes and Korean Brands are getting there now.

Check out stories about Sentry Mode battery drain. Both Mercedes and BMW do something similar but in a limited way. As far as I can tell, limitations are exactly because they don’t want to continuously drain the HV battery.

Superchargers aren’t really a car feature, and it seems like everyone is getting access to them this year.

My BMW iOS app saved my ass at an airport parking lot earlier this month. Tired, late at night, on the phone, I accidentally locked my bag in my car with the key in it (despite it beeping and opening the lift gate to let me know - nevertheless, I persisted).

I unlocked it with my phone. Good to go.

Nah! they just replaced the one that was shoot.

Both BMW and Mercedes apps are great. Neither of them use Bluetooth for keys, at least not in the US. Only big issue I have with Merc is the lack of Apple Car Keys.

How does the BMW App handle multiple BMWs? Can you just swipe left/right to change between cars?

Mercedes is absolutely idiotic where you have to hit a separate sub-menu, swipe over to a different car, set that car to active, then go back to the main app.

The BMW app is pretty much useless for me.

  • There’s no way at all to open the hatch, AFAICT, remotely or otherwise. You have to unlock the car and get to the driver’s position and hit the button. Maybe they added an NFC sensor to the hatch with the '24 model year refresh.
  • It’s slow as hell doing anything. Turning on the fan takes 15 seconds even if I am standing right by the car. I guess the signal needs to be relayed from me to Munich and then the car. My regular parking spot at work is 4 levels underground so it’s even slower if it works at all. I have to spend 3 minutes of my 5 minute walk to the parking lot messing around with the app just to turn on the fan or unlock the car. I’m going to get run over in the parkade because of this and the cops will be like victim was playing with his phone while walking. They want $20/year for this.

There is an icon top right, kinda a stack of cars. Hit that, you get a list of all your cars. They also have “demo cars” in there, so you can see how it works on different cars. Merc, requires 1 more tap.

Why can’t these German companies just let you swipe left/right? haha

I would guess that they don’t want you to hit things with the hatch. They do have ultrasonic sensors in cars with automatic doors, but not in the hatch. I do like kick sensors for hatches though.

Car communication is done via their cloud and car’s cell connection, so it depends on reception at the very least. Probably has to do with minimizing battery usage as well. That being said, both BMW and Mercedes app to car “latency” is around 10-15 seconds for me, pretty consistently. Maybe I am lucky to have good cell reception everywhere I go.
