I am the original poster, just had to create a second account because of the message limit.
I need a functional car, thatâs classy, doesnât kill my mpg, is a 5 seater(have a dog,I climb, hike,go out for dinner), donât need a 1/4 mile car cause in New York thatâs unnecessary to get through the free quarter mile in front of you to hit traffic again. I also like the styling of the e53, but wouldnât mind the m550i as another option.
I would like to keep the payment under 1k. I also understand that the amg doesnât please terribly well. The Porsche Panamera is nice, but not what I wanted as I donât want a wagon.
The other suv I considered was the GLC 43, macan s/turbo, or the SQ5.
I love the e43/e53 (thereâs a reason they are on Car and Drivers 10-Best), but there are absolutely no deals to be found. If you want one, you gotta pay. And pay some more.
As deals go, this one is about what I have seen for most first offers from dealers, but they donât get much better than this, even with a lot of grinding.
You just arenât going to get a hack on this car. With a different brand you can get a lot more HP for the same money, or the same HP with a lot less money.
Youâve got to decide if this is really the car you want. If it is, then I would go another couple of rounds with the dealer then hold my nose and jump. But a BMW 5 series (for a lot less money), or many others is going to be cheaper.
m550i best bang for buck, the suvs will give you more than enough room. Depends on what your needs and wants are, I would suggest spending time in all of these cars instead and then going out and getting the best deal. I am a gearhead so speed and power is what motivates me, so with you looking at these cars I assumed you were a bit of a car guy, but yeah even the performance suvs almost handle like cars so they are a good choice, very peppy on the on-ramps but comfortable when cruising.
Thatâs true, I mean 40-80 acceleration is an important factor if he uses highways, lots of unknowns to be honest. Best way to classify this is the e53 is bad $ per horsepower ratio when compared to other amgs.
From what he said NY traffic is awful, definitely not gonna be able to open up the valves very much in the city or the highway.
Itâs almost the same monthly to finance this thing for 7 years. If you sold it after 3 years of this loan youâd pay âonlyâ $5,466.25 in interest. Almost legit half of the lease rent charge.
Either finance this car or lease a different one. Youâre throwing money away by leasing it. Just finance it and drive it under warranty then sell it. Good chance youâll take less of a hit than leasing.
Pay no mind to the âhorsepowerâ bros on here, youâre expectations and desires for a luxury car in the class are legitimate. I personally advocated for an Audi S7, but those things most likely lease equally as poorly!
A base Panamera wonât really be significantly better to lease; itâs marginal in my mind. Try to hack an M550.
@chrishs2000 did a pretty good job of explaining why this is a bad lease deal!
Horsepower bro here and a bit off topic, saw some articles on the 2020 s7 and not impressed at all specs pretty much match the e53 but base price is like 85k options probably push it to high 90s low 100s possibly, styling/interior is not my niche but all 3 german manufacturers have always done well on that aspect imo.
But anyway back on target, I think it is important to note here that it looked like op was willing to pay an effective $1300 a month on the e53 and was noted by many as overpriced, in these expensive fast cars I donât think people are going to hate driving an e63 or m5, the cars are just too good to hate on, you might dislike the insurance cost differences or maybe the fuel mpg but these cars are almost a jekyll and hyde experience being extremely luxurious and as calm as a e300/530i until you stomp on the gas.
but for me and Iâm sure many others would agree if you are going to spend that kind of monthly payment on a car I better be getting supercar performance as well as a luxurious interior with the latest tech and a sharply styled car. The e53 does all of those things but falls short on the performance side, so in a year or two when the hype dies down I would expect this car to be slotted in the $800-$1000 range similar to the m550ix. (All of this is just speculation though)
You think with my current e53 if i get it at $900-1050 on lease would that make it a âgood dealâ considering that this model and series typically leases poorly?
I also agree though that if I end up having to pay 1200-1500 then I world go with an m5 or e63s. At the moment Iâm trying to get a m550i for mostly loaded for between $800-900. Doing my research to see if this is feasible or if Iâm even targeting to high on that model bmw.
There is nothing this car could do for me in 3 years worth $48,000 over 36 months.
Maybe you are in love and ready to marry this car, and maybe your typical car budget is $1300/mo and Iâm out of line, but my suggestion is: how much (fun) car can you lease for 1/3 less, call it $850/mo? And then do you love this thing that much more?
I suspect if you get it, itâs going to end up on SwapALease before 9/1/2022.
I think 900-1050 would make an e53 a good deal given itâs current state of support by the captive, you arenât getting an e63 under $1500 a month unless you put down cap cost reduction, you can get an m5 for $1200-$1300 a comp likely adds $100-$200 again depending on options.
The m550ix is pretty much an f10 m5 (2011-2016) previous gen, still missing the harshness of the shifting and stiffer suspension but if you arenât gonna track it or drive it aggressively you wouldnât notice the difference.
In summary at $1300 go m5
at $950-$1050 go e53
m550ix is the best bang for buck but like others have said above me the interior is outdated, if you truly love the e53 I think what your aiming at is a solid compromise.
