Mazda lease on CX5 Preferred - deal check and contract question

Hi everyone! I would greatly appreciate any information/insights you can share so that I can have some clarity about whether to move forward on this offer when I return to dealer this week. I am still learning about leasing and this site has been so helpful.

I am in NJ. I have a 3 year lease on 2022 CX5 Select. Lease expires in 3 months but Mazda is offering $750 loyalty+$500 private client offer to bring it back now for a new lease on 2025 CX5.
Here is what the dealer and I negotiated:

  • 2025 CX5 Preferred
    +MSRP $33,995
+$1250 incentives (loyalty program+ mazda private client offer)
    +$371 monthly lease payment
    +36 months, 10,000 miles
+$2700 due at signing- this includes Acquisition fee, doc fee, registration fee, etching fee, all taxes and 1st month payment (their actual inceptions fees are higher but this is what I asked for and they agreed).

I feel like this is a good deal?? I used the LH calculator and it is pretty close. I know, I know. Where is the residual value, MF, etc? Well, it was late and the finance guys went home so I based my LH numbers on a very similar offer from another dealer who DID provide me with MF at .00088%. I will be returning this week for more clarification, which is why I need you all to chime in.

Here’s the thing, in the preliminary breakout they provided, their taxes are higher than my calculations. Dealer said taxes on Acquisition fee, Doc fee and etching fees + total monthly lease of $13,356 ($371x36) should be $1046.88. So I calculated all those (NJ rate is .06625%) but I only come up to $994.02. I know it may seem like only a $52.87 difference, but this means I am paying $52.87 in taxes on a $797.96 charge that I cannot see. Does this matter if we have agreed to the $2700 DAS to include taxes?

Here are my questions:

  • $371/month for 36 months and $2700 due at signing - is this a good deal?
  • Do I need to be anal about the tax calculation discrepancy given the $2700 covers all taxes?
  • The dealer initially offered $410 monthly lease payment with same $2700 down inception fees. He got it down to $371. If I don’t plan on buying the car at the end of the lease, do I need to care about how their calculations are made in the back end so long as my lease agreement shows that the $2700 covers all inception fees incl 1st month payment?

Thank you for your help!!

You can technically roll it to be any arbitrary number. If they do business honestly, that is perfectly kosher. Could be $2701, etc. Doesn’t really matter as long as the math makes sense.

That being said we’re about $40 cheaper per month and offer free home delivery.

If you want to shoot us an inquiry, we should be able to put something together for you! Just make sure to include the private offer during your inquiry!

Interesting. I will send you an inquiry. Thank you for your reply to my post. So are you saying that assuming the dealer is reputable and honors the $2700 DAS to include all inception fees, it doesnt matter if the taxes are off?

$53 isn’t that that far off to account for a rounding error. Thomas and his team are solid, and are beating this deal by well over $1000, totally worth the fee.

You positive they are not rolling in your last couple payments? Or is the offer directly from Mazda and states they will waive those payments.

Right now mazda is offering to pay up to $1000 for payments that are left if getting a new lease. My lease was up in may and was offered it a couple months back and at the time i was told it would be around for a few months. Mine was a cx 30 turbo pp. A good guy on this forum helped me get a great deal on a hornet r/t plus and i just sold my lease to toyota for a $2130 profit
