Somewhat general topic: Surfing Cargurus to see models sitting in dealerships (taking the actual length with a grain of salt here) and seeing some interesting models stagnant. Are these good targets, or is searching for a deal using time at dealer a waste of time.
Some examples at 150+ days at dealership between $65 and $10k:
Maserati Grecale, maybe a dozen sitting, some over 200+ days
I am seeing $899 zero down lease deals on this car.
Maserati Levante
Lincoln Aviators
Infiniti QX60 higher end builds in the $65-$70k range
I wonder how long those GLE’s sit in average. Them MB dealers did well during the pandemic, marking up above MSRP and ordering less cars than there was a demand. I used to always tell them that those days would be over soon, they would just smirk in response.
I know a local dealership where they have bunch of GLE350’s that were sitting on their lot for at least 144 days. But they still talk to you like it’s September of 2022.
Agreed, better off with a loaner Macan, neither of which I am shopping for. I am still hopeful for a sweet EV deal, would love an X5 but they lease like crap…
I wouldn’t be surprised with massive incentives and discounts in coming months. Ton of cars are sitting on dealer’s lots with dealers stuck in pandemic mentality. Visit some dealerships around, many are empty, there are no buyers out there.
Dealers seem to be bugging me more which is usually a good sign. Just looking on here Jrou is now getting discounts on Toyota hybrids which were definitely amongst some of the most stubborn vehicle prices. Everything is looking grim numbers wise leading into the winter (CC debt, auto delinquencies etc.) so will see. It’s really difficult to want to buy with the current interest rates and even if you have the cash it’s hard to let it go when you can get safe 4.5-5.4%ish returns on it instead of buying a depreciating asset. Leases have also been hit by interest rates and banks not believing in the new absurd residuals and predicting them to be much lower.
I am throwing caution to the wind and leasing a 23 Grecale Modena tomorrow. MSRP a hair over 80k with a 22% discount off MSRP. My dealer uses US Bank for leasing, which is not ideal but there are some great lease incentives now and MF is .00225 (no matter the lease term). US bank seems to have slightly lower RV’s (but along with that lower MF). The 3 year lease would give me a lease hacker score of 7.2 years. 4 year lease would be 7.8.
There’s 5.5k lease credit - or so I am told. That discount is for a lease only. Now maybe that’s dealer BS, but if true, that finance discount would be more like 15% off MSRP and over 36 months the lease would have an effective monthly cost over 36 months of $1,014 vs $1,103 on financing.
Would be good to confirm, what is a reasonable MSRP discount on a Modena trim Grecale and am I being mislead about the fact that there’s 5,500 of lease credit not available via financing?
I went and test drove one the other weekend. I was not impressed. The Nor Cal dealer was doing about 17% off just off the bat. If I was actually serious, I would have shot for 25% off and the $5XXX bonus cash, although I think it depends on who you lease through. Regardless, I would much rather get an X5 for that money.
Saw a grecale on the road today. That thing from the rear looked like a Murano. So bubbly and ugly. Not worth the asking price imo. Only thing nice is the exclusivity which is probably why you are even looking at this car anyway. Porsche suv so much nicer.
Personally I find the design of the Grecale beautiful and it looks absolutely nothing like a Murano to me. To each his own. It checks a lot of the right boxes for me. Perfect size (not too big or too small), reasonably powerful Modena trim with reasonable MPG. Fun to drive. Blue and Bianco Astro colors look amazing in person. I think the stock leather interior is pretty weak for the money, but the premium leather package makes a world of difference.
I wouldn’t be considering this vehicle at full price, but with a sizable discount off MSRP it works for me.
Anyway… about the Grecale discounts…
I’ve spoken to several brokers, worked with several dealers, scoured the internet… I’ve not seen or heard of any deals more than a total of around 22-23% off MSRP (on a lease) at the moment with all discounts, and incentives, factored in. Has anyone seen Grecale deals in excess of that at the moment? Maybe they exist, but I haven’t seen any evidence of it.
