FCA is such an amalgam of brands that are really strong right now (Jeep, RAM) and ones that would struggle by themselves (Dodge, Chrysler, Alfa, Lancia, etc), it would be really interesting to see how different buyers value it.
Volvo and JLR are proof that independent brands can survive but it takes huge investment from a deep-pocketed owner.
And a willing owner. Ford almost killed Volvo and GM killed Saab.
GM sold SAAB off, but didn’t let the new owner obtain Chinese partnership for an influx of capital…so it was an indirect slaying.
They sold it to a no-name buyer, not even an actual car manufacturer, as I remember. But destroyed the brand before then.
Spyker…they are a small sports car manufacturer in Europe. But, yes, the General essentially had them in the grave at the time of sale.
