I’ve tested the ascent, palisade, highlander, traverse, explorer. Traverse has, by far, the most cargo space behind the third row (23”). Palisade had an awesome Sport mode making changing lanes and passing super fun. Highlander third row was laughable, as was the Ascent’s. Storage behind third row can’t even fit a stroller, let alone anything else. Explorer expensive for what it is. Currently have Traverse at top of list.
The Atlas is big and boxy so that would at least match the Traverse too right? Though I wouldn’t exactly call it ‘Luxury’ by any stretch really…
Cargo space behind the third row is Traverse #1 and then everyone else. Haven’t tested Atlas though visuals are good
We looked at the atlas and traverse prior to getting a Q7 and liked both of them, especially the atlas.
The atlas has slightly less space than the traverse, but still more than almost anything else available.
Cx9 and Aviator
In all fairness, they did market it heavily… in 2013. Back when it came out as the JX35
3 diono car seats in a row. I personally have dionos in both my cars. Built tough w/all steel construction almost like a mini airplane seat
I agree on qx60 tho. No captain’s chairs in qx60. Qx80 does have the option but doesnt lease very well.
Qx60 is Super cheap to lease even the pre-owned ones are a good value to buy. If u are worried about tech just take the savings and splurge on ipads, a hidden apple carplay unit etc, etc.
Q7 is a mild update for 2020 as well as xc90.
Cx9 back seats are tiny and cargo room isn’t great.
Aviator is going to lease very poorly for a while and has been having a ton of teething issues.
People looking for “three across” could also look at Clek car seats.
It’s also important to keep in mind that FF harnessed kids will graduate to using seat belts, which require more of a gap between car seats to buckle
As many other dads, I was torn with this decision, especially as I’ve got 3 small kids. I initially drove a 2014 GL then a 2017 GLS and then I got a 2019 Honda Odyssey Elite as a third vehicle. I’m still torn: every time the kids get in by themselves, buckle themselves, I close the sliding doors, I love the minivan. Every time I’m behind the wheel… I want back in my GLS. Also, while Honda has very sophisticated tech (and a sophisticated price tag of nearly 50k), the experience is in a totally different league when compared to Mercedes. The Honda tech has so many glitches and it feels so sluggish, freezing, that I’d rather have simple tech that works.
I’ll keep the minivan for a while as we have an U pair who drives it, however my daily driver and the weekend family car will still be the GLS, there is nothing like it out there… yes, not even the X7, although that one is close.
