It has all the bell and whistles . If he tried out a base model audi or bmw it would feel like going from something good to trash
it would feel like going from something good to trash
Wow, this is quite a strong statement.
Letâs dive in a bit more, take Outback Touring (the most expensive trim) and a base X5 45e. I glanced at the Outbackâs standard feature and beside the EyeSightÂŽ Driver Assist Technology, the bimmer has everything else the Outback offers.
Now drive train and suspension: the Subaru has CVT, 182 hp / 176 lb-ft. The bimmer offers 389 hp / 443 lb-ft, with air suspension. If a driver canât recognize this difference alone, Iâm struggle to understand what will: a Lambo SUV?
This is a very debatable topicâŚ
âshould I get a loaded V6 Accord Touring with all bells and whistles or a stripped BMW 3 seriesâ
Iâm not going to get into the specifics etc but in this scenario the 3 series will overall have better driving dynamics than a Honda, whether it be better handling, quieter, better driving experience etc.
OP states he canât tell the difference which tells me he just wants a âtransportation appliance â with a lot of options etc.
FYI, there is a big difference .
Also, donât forget the enormously better service youâll get from the luxury brands. Itâll be âgood morning Mr Vicont, we have your courtesy loaner ready for you, vs âit should be about 2-3hrs for your oil change and you can wait in our waiting lounge and help yourself to free tap waterâ
You get the driftâŚ
They donât give you a loaner for an oil change.
Who doesnât?
So called luxury dealerships.
They most certainly do, youâre wrong
I have two BMWs that are garaged 2,000 miles apart (and therefore obviously not serviced at the same dealer).
Both dealers give me a loaner when I get an oil change.
One car is new/leased (maintenance included) the other is CPO/purchased (maintenance is my expense).
Wanna bet?
They definitely do. I got a loaner for an oil change on a Range Rover . Took only about 2 hours and still they gave it . Toyota dealerships on the other hand donât give anything. Left my car for a full day and max they offered was a bus pass
Never got a loaner at Audi, Volvo, MB, Porsche, or Cadillac (ok maybe doesnât count) on an oil change. Maybe Iâm not asking properly.
Where do you live . Do they offer you a Uber home at least
That was Sacramento area. Yep I always get the courtesy shuttle or a Uber/Lyft.
ThisâŚeven Volkswagen has a full time dude running a shuttle, but only for that given town. If youâre from another town, you wait, drink horrid coffee, and stroll auto row for a few hours.
Volkswagen is a luxury company? Or itâs like a beginner that brings you in
Based on my experience Iâd never use the loaner benefit to step into a luxury brand. The waiting rooms are nicer at least.
Decidedly non-luxuryâŚ(itâs in their name). I suppose they donât have enough margin in oil changes like the âLuxâ brands to loan out a vehicle for it.
Nor would I. Itâs too much hassle anyway, I just do my own oil changesâŚtakes less than 15 minutes, and maybe a few more clicking links on Amazon.
This. (Experience with BMW only)
Maybe depends on how the service is doing schedule & load wise.
Besides free maintenance on a lot of luxury brands, by not going into the dealership youâre missing out on any software updates, or any TSBs.
My last Ford had 7 or 8 oil changes at the dealer (I would night drop and Uber/Lyft back when it was done), I donât think it was ever âjust an oil changeâ - they did some small warranty work every visit that improved something.
My Volvo has been in service 3 times in 2 years, every visit got a software update I could not do myself.
For the brands that typically offered loaners: a lot has changed a lot in the last 18 months. Many dealers donât have the cars to spare to put into loaner service. Lots of reports here that they didnât get a loaner, or it has to be in service 1+ days, or they got a rental from Enterprise or Uber credits.
