Low Residual Value for 2026 Toyota bZ

Hello…back in the leasing game, and going all-electric. We’re looking at a 2026 Toyota bZ XLE AWD (36/10K mi.) and very surprised to see a 45% RV via LH Calculator. Toyota is offering a $7K sweetner to absorb some of that steep depreciation, but is that enough? Like to have the dealer knock off a bit of MSRP (ca. $42K), but they’re pushing back.

Try to look for the Subaru Solterra instead, 8K to 9K discount from MSRP, plus 6K dealer cash plus 0% financing for up to 72 months. Better looking and build than the BZ IMHO. Moreover, all trims are AWD standard.

I’d be shocked if people are paying MSRP for these.

I think I’ve seen a few in Marketplace. I’d spend some time looking there for guidance on dealer discount, if you haven’t already.

What is your target deal?

You are a super supporter for exactly this reason. What discount off of MSRP is available in the market, and what payment does that yield given the RV, MF, and lease incentives?

Ideally, $40,500 Selling price, $2500 down, to get to ca. $350/mo payments per LH Calculator

Ideally, $40500 Selling Price, $2500 down, Mfrs. $7K incentive, yielding ca. $350/mo payments.

Check. Emailed local Sub dealer with these requirements: 24 or 36mo/7500 mi. lease, $2500 down, mfr. plus dealer incentives to get to $350/mo or less lease payment. We’ll see.

Was your target based on what you’ve seen in the Marketplace?

No joy in Marketplace search…WA not nearly as active as, e.g., CA, FL, East Coast.
Basically just worked backwards from monthly payment target, adding in down payment, mfr. incentive, 3% discount on MSRP to make it work…probably not realistic, but need a starting point — mine, not the dealer’s.

Even if the broker/dealer isn’t local you can still use their offerings to establish your target deal.

Think you’re better off waiting.

Last summer 15% off (before $13,000 lease) cash was possible on a 2025 Rz300 which was like a loaded BZ for less than what you’re proposing to pay now

The 2026 is improved in ways that don’t move the needle.

And the CHR is arguably a better product.

We’re carless now, renting on the insurer’s dime, but time running out, so scrambling to secure a vehicle.
Good point on C-HR, were it not for the fact that dealerships round the area have NONE in stock, and we don’t have the time, money, nor energy to shop nationally.

In that case change your approach.

What deal from California Marketplace looks good and is worth trying to replicate?

For March, could only find deals for '24 and '25 bZ4X cars, rest were all broker adds…no interest in the latter, time-pressed bigly.

If your pressed for time, wouldn’t that be more of a reason to use a broker?

Well, after suggestions here and elsewhere, a Subaru Solterra Premium AWD at $299/mo, 7500 mi, $2500 down, looks like the best deal, even giving up some nice features on the Ltd line…but, AWD is standard vs $1500 extra on bZ, and that was our biggest ask.
Factory incentives totaled $8000, which really dropped expenses…what’s not to like?

Did you end up getting one?

Waiting to hear back from Sales guy for confirmation of stock on lot. BTW, this is an official Subaru national promotion.

What about checking out swapalease or private transfers to find something short term?
