I want to get a Roadster for summer fun (I’m in NJ). Don’t want to spend a lot and loved the Miata but lease terms are horrible (and some dealers even won’t entertain leasing). If I can find anything soon I will probably wait for the 2019 models and will buy it. I test driven used Corvette and BMW Z4 but they weren’t as nimble and fun to drive as the Miata and the maintenance costs of an out of warranty used luxury car scares me. I also liked the Fiat 124 but prefer the Miata and the price difference between them is not that huge.
Any alternatives within this price range or do I have to resort to purchase? By the way, I see a lot of 2017 leftovers on NJ lots but the dealers are not moving much lower than 10-15% off, which seems strange considering 2019 model (with many small improvements) is just around the corner and end of the quarter is here.
You can probably finance a 2016 miata for under 20k. I’m not sure about pricing, but the new 2018s have more horsepower, so I’m going to assume that’s going to kill used car prices on 2016s.
The lotus looks amazing but I can’t see myself paying over $30K for a 2005-10 car with no tech. Even for a fun driving machine I still want a touch screen and the nice tech that comes with the new generation Miata. I’m getting quotes for the 2017 GT convertible Miata that will put me with $30K out of pocket after taxes and fees. Seems ridiculous. I expected at least 25% off a 2017 model. I might as well wait for the new Miata or wait a year until there are plenty of used 2017 models.
Ended up buying a leftover 2017 Miata Grand Turing for 20% off MSRP ($6k discount) after $1,500 in rebates ($25k before taxes, license and fees). This was close to what sellers wanted on used 2016 models so I figured I jump and enjoy it for what’s left of the summer.
