Looking for Suggestions on Buying two cars - or leasing - A luxury / Hybrid combo

,

Hi, I have been driving Toyotas for a while ~ 15 years, initially after graduating bought a Corolla and Now Since 2022 Nov driving a Highlander. Both gas and both the times I financed.
Sold my Corolla and paying close to $1000 for Highlander as I had financed it for 2% interest. I have been driving gas cars. Has around 11K miles on it.

I need a second car now. I am thinking of going for an EV and I am also planning to replace my highlander XLE 2022 too as Tech in the car is looks pretty old compared to new cars we are having. This time I am planning to lease an EV and I am confused whether to buy or lease the car I replace my highlander with.
I am planning to have one EV and one hybrid car (Prefer hybrid or Gas as I have a toddler)
And plan is to have atleast one car from Luxury segment (BMW / Cadillac / Porsche ). I am new to leasing, never leased it but my plan is to not keep these cars for long time (Max 5 Years)

I am looking for suggestions and recommendations on how I can plan to go about executing buying of two cars.

I am mainly looking for cars with good driving experience especially on long drives, as we are planning to do some long drive trips this year and next year.
A good car for local commute with good mileage and good safety features (this would be mainly used by my wife and toddler kid) . And I am not looking for a payment of excess of $1500 - $1800 per month (both cars combined) .

Thanks

Finance a Lexus RX hybrid but not necessarily right now; APRs are coming down across many brands and inevitably there will be a domino effect.

Lease the EV; there are tons to choose from in the Marketplace such as the ZDX and Lyric.

If you don’t qualify for Acura loyalty/conquest then look at the Honda prologue.

Just keep the Highlander and lease an EV, you can get a great deal on a lease vs purchase on EV’s now… but, if you really wanna change everything-then, get a BMW IX for around $600/mo or the Cadillac LIRYQ, and get a 2025 Subaru Forester (but I would still keep the Highlander over getting a new car lease, that thing is still BRAND NEW)

Seems like you are chasing after an image vs practicality but I’d invest the rest for the future of the family

What car/brands has your wife expressed interest in? IMO start there and just try to get the best deal you can that checks the Wifey + Toddler boxes.

For EV (local commute, all lease)
Genesis GV70 electrified
Benz EQE SUV or EQS SUV
BMX iX
Kia EV9

For non-EV:
Sienna (buy)
Volvo XC90 (lease)

Or even an EQS sedan that has a humongous trunk (it is really a hatchback) and it’s also safe simply because it weighs almost as much as Abrams M-1 tank.

Look at Dodge Hornet RT plug in trim. ( Alfa Romeo Tonale twin) <$300/m here in NY. All in.
My two friends got them, and they are really positively surprised. A lot of car for that money.

Thanks, that is helpful. I liked the Lexus RX when I test drove it. Its quiet and had good experience with handling. But not like a BMW though.

She is fine with any brand. She is more interested in Safety features than brands. She believe car is just a commodity that takes us from one point to another point. But she definitely prefers a SUV

I like what you are suggesting, I thought about this but I think next few years is good time to drive a car in Luxury segment and then I want to go frugal and invest more in family.

This is exactly what I am thinking right now.

I just signed for a 24’ Dodge Hornet R/T in Colorado at $99/ $0 DAS, 24 months, 12k miles. There was an additional $3k rebate I didn’t (and can’t) account for plus CO has a $3500 EV rebate that many states don’t have. My incentive rebates ended up being $16,100, but in any other case should have been $13,100; again for CO though.

I know different regions have different incentives, but there still should be near $10k in incentives most places. Plus I received $3k off the $46k MSRP.
