I had Llumar Air Blue 80 on my Focus Electric, and recommend it if you want heat rejection without impairing nighttime visibility. It’s very light so you don’t really notice it, but still rejects a lot of heat.
I once had 35% tint on my front windows and had to roll down my windows to check for pedestrians when making turns at night. Not a fan.
This is so true. I recently got the 15% Llumar CTX ceramic tint in the front and it’s hard to see at night. In the daytime it looks good as it matches the stock privacy glass but that’s just aesthetics. I am definitely getting older.
And yes shop around for the ceramic tint. It certainly better than the dyed/regular tints as ceramic protects from UV rays and reduces heat. Don’t forget to tint the sunroof and panoramic roof if you are in hot zone areas.
Following up here on my experience with Roger/@FilmTechPros
I contacted him through instagram and he was very responsive, courteous and professional. I think I got over 12 quotes on Yelp and noone even touched his leasehackr special price. This was done at their shop and I did Rayno S5 35% and a chrome delete around the front grill.
I think it looks fantastic, I absolutely adore the all black front and the 35% is just the right amount. I haven’t had a car tinted in 20 years (the only thing I remember is getting talked into a super dark tint and almost immediately getting a ticket for it) so I definitely forgot nearly everything about the process. Roger advised it would take 3-5 days for the tint to properly cure and settle in, but the side windows looked clear and near perfect to me already. The visibility on these is excellent, even at night, no problems at all. It was an overcast day so I couldn’t really test the heat reduction but I have a feeling I’ll be thankful I did this once it’s summer up here in the San Fernando Valley.
The rear windshield was harder to see through immediately and had kind of a wavy look in places, I checked in with Roger after I drove off and he confirmed that’s normal on a big piece of glass and to let it settle in and if not improved after 5 days, let him know and he will redo it but he feels confident it will resolve. Also, I didn’t really think about this, but light reflecting on the tint off the rear defroster lines at night is pretty intense. It’s like any headlight turns into a bunch of horizontal lines. I googled this and apparently it’s due to the sharp slope of the rear window and people either live with it or they get the tint removed. I’m hoping this improves at least a little as the tint cures or I just get used to it because it was pretty distracting, though honestly I don’t drive much at night and I don’t even know if I’d driven this car at night really before.
It’s very likely I’ll be getting the side window trim “deleted” soon by Roger and then will have a better grasp how I’m feeling about the rear windshield. Judging by my experience today, I feel confident in a good result! I think the car is looking amazing- see pics below. I think the tint looks darker here than it does IRL though.
I’ve had a great experience with @FilmTechPros. Roger was very responsive and did mobile install for our Tesla MX and M3. The quality of the job is superb!
Isn’t Rayno nano-ceramic? Check out @FilmTechPros pricing as stated above for LH members on Rayno. If you got S5 I think he’s saying it’d be like $300.
G5 Tint shop in Alhambra, CA uses Llumar CTX ceramic tint. You can Yelp and call them. They also use 3M and Formula 1 (Pasadena). I think $500 for all 5 windows and windshield is normal price. If you can find cheaper for ceramic, make sure shop is reputable and correct tint material.
Just following up to say @FilmTechPros tint has settled in beautifully after 4 days and I’m very happy with the result, though it’s been so overcast in LA I haven’t really been able to test it properly. Also the chrome delete is perfect!
I was looking at some of the Yelp quotes- one shop had quoted me $350 for the Rayno S5 Roger did for $150.
Welp, I contacted Roger @FilmTechPros last week to finish the chrome delete on the sides of my car and have my coworker’s car tinted. He was slow to respond but told me he had been busy with the physical shop closing up when I followed up. We set an appt for today, my coworker texted him questions to aid in selecting his tint and we got no answer. I texted again to follow up and confirm our appointment today. No answer. Nobody showed up today either. Not sure what’s going on there, hope he’s ok, but disappointing for sure especially since customer service was great on the first round.
Anyone have a recommendation for someone to do the chrome delete? Pref SF valley or Hollywood if possible.
@FilmTechPros came this past sunday and tinted our windows. Did a great job for an amazing price. Not sure why they disappeared, hoping to do more business with them.
General tinting question. Never really wanted tinting before but now have a rear facing car seat in Accord and kiddo gets hot in there when sun is shining through rear or side windows. Most highly rated Yelp place near me offers suntek carbon series and suntek CXP series ($180 and $280 respectively) for rear windows and rear windshield. Anyone have an opinion on the merits of the different tinting.
Also wouldn’t mind recommendations if anyone has got tinting done in DC/NoVa.
I don’t really know how the difference brands differ. As long as the specs are good probably the brand doesn’t matter as much. It is just a 2-3 year lease so I really don’t care what the long term reliability is of the tint. Just compare the specs. We recently got S7 tint mentioned above and it is pretty nice.
I’m not seeing sunshades for ten dollars online. Are you talking the kind you put up when you park or the kind you keep up while driving?
If I wasn’t clear this is more an issue for when we are driving then the car getting hot when parked. I don’t need sunshades to keep car cool when parked, I need way to keep reduce heat in back seat when driving and sun is shining into back of car.
