Looking for a luxury SUV

Hello fellow Leasehackrs. I’m a long time lurker and recent subscriber. My family just grew by one and I’m now in need of a 3rd row. The new vehicle will be my wife’s primary car and I would like to get her something nice. I would like to be in it no more than 700 a month and a max of 2k DAS.

I know a lot of you will tell me to search and I have. I’m interested in the following vehicles that have 3rd row options. Do you guys think I can easily get into one of these? I’m new to leases and am not confident in haggling but I’m no sucker either.

2019 XC90 inscription
2020 GLE 350
2019 X5
2020 Aviator

Aviator is a mighty machine, but you’re not going to get a good lease deal on one. XC90 imo gets some of the best deals for what you get.

Xc90 is probably the only one doable on your list

I’ll add to the above posts and say Volvo is your best bet, the aviator is brand new and the x5 is freshly redesigned, gle leases ok, the Volvo is the best bet.

Audi Q7? Would be a whole bunch below your budget

Agree that the xc90 is the only vehicle on your list sure to be within budget, and also agree that you should add the Q7 as it will be within budget too.

Xc90 imo has better exterior aesthetics than the Q7, and more rear cargo space (this is measurable, not an opinion). The v6 Q7 offers a far superior driving experience, the second row is amazing (35/30/35 layout, middle seat latch, lots of legroom), and imo the interior is just more luxurious and refined. I’m not a fan of xc90 all touch screen layout, so I prefer Q7 tech as well.

What bugs me about the Q7 is that a complete new redesign will be out in a couple months.

$2k DAS and $700 a month should get you an X5, GLE, or a fully loaded T6.

Might have to special order the X5 or GLE for 3rd row.

Agree, interior is 1000000x nicer.

Probably can do a Land Rover Discovery for that price point too. Especially MY19/20 change over is coming.

Are you speaking from experience? Do you have a dealer or broker you can recommend? I appreciate any help.

I just wrapped up shopping for the same thing, the XC90 came very close to being purchased, but I went with a Ford Expedition -see my thread on it from today… I tested the discovery, gls, xc90, vw atlas, Q7, and chevy traverse, etc… just to see the options open to me on 3 rows… Atlas size was excellent, but was way under powered for my driving taste, XC90 had all the gizmos and felt good enough, the Q7 has a 3rd row that is not usable in my opinion in a regular basis. GLS was out since its getting a new body, Q7 is only getting a refresh, not all new body, so it may not be a huge change if you’re into it… For comparison, I am coming from driving a 2017 Range Rover, so luxury definitely mattered to me, and my Expedition purchase has been satisfying, with 3 full size second and 3rd rows of seats as well as space to haul all the required family gear without issues. My first domestic purchase, and satisfied, I owned Audi A6, A4, Benz Eclass, BMW 3 series etc… so it was big jump into a Ford.

It’s actually a mid cycle refresh.

Really the major change is the touch based interface. I think the rest of the interior, including virtual cockpit, is the same. I have a Q7, and IMO, it’s never been the best looking vehicle in its class, so any minor update to the exterior won’t make a difference. Supercharged v6 is being replaced by a turbo v6, so that’s not a huge difference.

I’d test drive the new a6 to see if you even like the all touch interface; lots of people don’t.

I wouldn’t cross the Q7 off your list just because of an impending refresh. It’s widely regarded as the best in class. It’s fantastic for families. The biggest drawback is that the second row is so spacious, it does reduce the third row and rear cargo space.

I hack them myself, but just based on what I see brokers posting on the forum, reaching out directly and inquiring, I think you’re right in the right neighborhood.

The 2020 Q7 is getting the same look as the new Q8. In my opinion, that’s a pretty drastic change both interior and exterior.

The only expedition I like is going for 85k. That’s quite a bit more that the vehicles I listed.

The dash looks very futuristic, and much cooler no doubt.

But again, it’s 100% touch screen based, and not everyone is a fan. The biggest concern is not having physical controls for a/c and such.

Like i said, OP needs to test drive a new a6(or q8) to see if he likes the system.

I’ll have to do that. Thanks again for all the advice.
