Longest distance for dealer delivery of leased car

Greetings hackers,

I’m in the process of negotiating a lease for my retired in-laws. My goal is to not set foot in the F&I office and have them come to us. This is the first time we aren’t re-upping with Honda, and are going with Subaru instead. (due to high MF at Honda).

Some questions:

  • How far is too far for a dealership to make delivery? I’m in the metro Boston area. I’m thinking if it’s a weekday M-F that I have more leeway here. Is there typically a fee for delivery?

  • How will the hard-pull authorization work? I’ll probably have to co-sign, because I don’t think Chase is as liberal as Honda Finance has been in issuing tier-1 credit. Can I just authorize that via emailing a signed PDF document? Will they give tier-1 based on the co-signer’s score, if the in-laws aren’t tier-1 eligible?

Thanks,
Bill

This is more of a dealership by dealership & deal by deal decision. I’ve had dealerships from NJ & Atlanta deliver cars to my house in Cleveland, OH - I had to pay for both of those. My buddy works for a dealership in Cleveland and personally drove a car he sold to a client in central PA at no charge because that’s what he needed to do to get the deal done. I’d recommend contacting the dealership you’re working with to get their policy.

I had a dealer willing to flatbed me a car from Cincy to Pittsburgh and tow my lease end back on their dime, but this is a definite YMMV scenario.
