If BMW actually produces this car, they have a long way to go to make it as repugnant as some of their other current offerings.
So you want two, right?
It’s all part of BMWs plan.
Everyone hated the G80 M3, so they made all their subsequent new models even uglier. Now everyone will praise the beauty of the M3
Video looks promising, but that’s before they inevitably swap in the beaver grille and the Family Truckster headlights.
And perhaps a four-tone paint scheme.
5x coats for depth and impossible to color blend.

I don’t understand what purpose a 9 series would practically serve. The 7 series is already the executive sedan and not a great selling one at that. The S class is the best option in that class, the Panamera will drive better, and if you want to spend big dollars then get a Bentley or a Rolls. It must be cheap enough for them to produce a few thousand a year with $20k in trunk money, otherwise what is the point of re-entering that market and cannibalizing 7 series sales? Would make way more sense for BMW to produce something along the lines of an X9 with a bigger trunk and/or a 4-seater configuration for chauffeurs.
My guess is they will stop producing the 7 series temporarily like they did with the 6 series when they introduced the 8 series (which is basically a 6 series with a name change). This will bring a fresh batch of status seeking consumers who are willing to pay top dollar for a hot new model vs a refreshed old one.
More than one reference I sampled suggested that a potential 9 Series would be positioned against the Maybach label.
And then they’ll have to start offering trunk money to move stock units because sales are flatlining. This is what happened with the 8 series and BMW was ultimately forced to reduce the MSRP. Who would have thought that 6 series buyers would not be willing to pay 30% more on the new 6 series with an 8 badge?? The same thing will happen with this one if they replaced the 7 with it. What they should do is forget the idea of a 9 series and just rebadge this as the new 7 series. The new 7 looks atrocious anyways, imo.
Funny that you say that. Every time I see an 8 Series I wonder why it wasn’t the new 6.
I haven’t seen a new 7 in person, but it certainly isn’t photogenic.
Why is it so long?
[Nope, too easy]
Right? My guess is that BMW needed a MB S or SL Coupe/Cabriolet competitor while hoping to retain the 6 series buyer. As a former m850 convertible owner, I will admit that the car is a substantial upgrade from the former 650. But a good chunk of 6 series buyers refused to pay the premium and the market spoke = trunk money followed by a MSRP drop. The new 7 is fugly in my honest opinion and this supposed 9 looks better. BMW should learn from their past mistakes…
Is this even a legit rumor or someone came up with the concept to get YT views?
There are a bunch of videos out there.
First page of Google search results shows chatter about a potential 9 Series going back as far as 2014.

So who knows knows?
The video definitely looks like an non-bmw art concept.
But i bet bmw is not thinking seriously about this… just doesn’t make sense thus just talks & rumors since 2014
Skeptical also.
Side note, I wish YouTube had a filter so I could eliminate videos that have no narration / spoken content.
The car and food/cooking videos with just music in the background make me crazy.
