Locking BMW Build Pricing

My dealer is telling me that if I do a build to order they can’t guarantee pricing / incentives

I thought that was exactly the opposite, that you can lock build pricing including rates and incentives for 90 days. Is my dealer just trying to scare me into getting a on the lot car or is there some nuance here?

Used to be that way but BMW has changed policy with the tariffs.

So nothing gets locked now at all?

Do you know if it’s a soft lock, ie I should probably expect similar pricing unless something drastic changes?

I don’t think so and I don’t think anybody knows…maybe check with a BMW broker for CA in the Marketplace.

On an order I just think you will pay whatever MSRP happens to be at time of delivery (maybe minus a pre negotiated discount, if any) along with any incentives at time of delivery.

What model?

I’m interested in iX

The irs seems to have clarified its language on the EV credits

Seems a committed contract before sep 30 may count as acquired for lease credit purposes

IAC, is there an official stance for orders now?

Regardless of what BMW will or will not lock, I would not enter into an order without at least having the dealer, in writing, agree to the markup (or lack there of, ie buy rate) of MF and a pre-incentive discount percentage. That way, even if the manufacturer programs or MSRP changes, you at least have some commitments from the dealer.

We all went through this in 2022. Even the linked IRS guidance just says “binding contract”

So we’re back to “yes* with a 5%+ non-refundable deposit, only in states where deposits are not refundable (e.g. NOT CA)"?

They – the IRS and related news coverage – might have made this clearer this go-round

oh come on GIF

Well on the plus side, it sounds like
(A) dealer might not honor terms
but
(B) I can walk away if they are substantially unfavourable myself
