Loaner car- who's responsible for the registartion fee?

Leased a Cadillac XT6 loaner (courtesy vehicle) on Sep 16 2020.
offer was Zero Down but when called they said $2k for fees etc.
Today I received a $579 registration renewal due in January 2021.

Is it standard that Dealership will not pay registration and the customer is responsible for registration after 3/4 months?

Did you transfer plates from another car? Else renewal in couple months does not make sense.

Either ways you are responsible for taxes which are billed by state. Most of that $579 would be property tax in most states

Look at your contract. See how much they charged for DMV, if more than say $50, you call them and ask them for a refund of DMV fees.
A Dealer cannot make profit on DMV fees. (Btw they can off DMV Filing Fees, but not the actual fee)

If it is very low, then well they forgot to tell you.
And congratz on paying extra DMV fees for 9 months in your 3rd year

At signing i was charged: License/title: $632

Contact them and tell them to refund most of that to you, they made you pay THEIR fees for that loaner car.

None of what you wrote is correct in CA.

@whywhy You are responsible for DMW renewal fees. When you got the loaner in Sept, registration should not have been that high. You should have only needed to pay the transfer fee.

I bet that’s the registration amount for a new vehicle. What does your signed paperwork say?

On actual contract:
Registration, transfer, and titling fee: $23
Vehicle license fee: n/a

You bought the car in Sept. it was a loaner that was first registered in Jan 2020, so registration was paid until Jan 2021. Since dealer charges you over $600 for DMV fees, contact the dealer and see where that money went. If they sent it to DMV then maybe get a proof and contact DMV. If the dealer just pocketed the money they should send you a refund check for that amount.

So basically you got 3 months free, and now it’s time to pay DMV.
And you didn’t get screwed on the registration. So pay the $ and sleep soundly.

So dealer only charged you $23. Compared to that sheet you sent, they probably increased the sales price and kept the registration savings since you didn’t catch it at signing though.
