Lexus Lease Return

Has anyone had recent experience on Lexus Lease Return. The dealer say’s I need to make an appointment with a third party company and they will go over with a fine tooth comb? I’ve never had this before and wanted to see how particular they are with tires. Thanks!

I suppose you don’t have to do the inspection before you turn it in, but they will identify any issues ahead of time so you can get them fixed or be prepared. The company is AutoVIN, who I’ve always found irritating to deal with, and they will probably inspect it after you turn it in even if you don’t do it before turn in.

Lexus isn’t strict about tires, generally 3/32 is considered acceptable.

penny test is the best way to measure at home?

That’s 2/32, so that should get you close. Lexus doesn’t have strict measurement guidelines in their return documentation, only that the tires aren’t a safety hazard. If the tires are beat, expect to take the hit.

Get the inspection, you will know of any issues before turn in. If you don’t you will not be able to dispute any wear/tear charges.

I had the wear & tear insurance on mine when I returned my lease. I skipped the pre inspection, just made an appointment w/ dealer on lease end, and just gave it back and go home. No charge for anything but the car was pretty much flawless tho.

yes, i didn’t buy the insurance. car is flawless, but my wearbars are about to show on front end.

You should do the pre inspection and know in advance. I was 100% positive I wasn’t going to get charge and I had insurance.

yah, i will do the pre-inspection. Thanks all!

Remember it’s the lowest point on the tire, not the average or highest. So if the tires are worn more on the inside than outside you have to measure the lowest point. And make sure you know the fine print about what type of tires it has to have and if they all need to be matching. My last infiniti I bought a random used tire to replace one they said was bald but my audi had to have matching front and matching back.

@tekelman
you can always buy 1-2 used tires with enough thread on craigslist for very cheap. Just make sure they match. Also if your car came with run flat tires, you have to return with run flat tires.

Def get the pre-inspection done.

Also, make sure you have both keys, Lexus will hit you for like $300-$400 for a missing key.

I returned my lease Benz last week, though not a Lexus, but mercedes-Benz financial services (MBFS) also uses AutoVin for inspection. The guy took 26 pictures and gave me a detailed report. I had a 7 inch crack windshield starting from the edge (FML). The quote 3rd party company my insurance referred me to gave me a $700 something OTD quote, but autovin quoted me 600 something if it’s fixed by the dealership. Because it was cheaper for me to have the dealership fix it, I returned the car as is. Turns out the dealership just bought the car directly from MBFS. So I just had to pay the return fee of $600.
