Lexus lease buyout, rebate clawback

Hey! Dealer is telling me if I buy out a lease earlier than 4 months, they ‘could’ clawback the $13,000 rebate. Anyone have any experience with this?

If I buy out the lease in 2 weeks, will they really do this? I signed nothing that stated there is a clawback or timeframe for that.

EDIT: Found this similar thread from 2023:

Sounds like it’s just something they say. But anyone have any other experience with this?

Ask them to highlight in the contract where it says that.

The real issue is they usually will lose any commision on mark ups if it isn’t held for at least 3 months so they’re claiming that so they don’t have their money clawed back.

With that said, if they’re working with you on an aggressive deal, wait a couple momths so they don’t get screwed over.

Why buy out an RZ?

Sold an RZ to an MBZ dealer in April 2024 within a month of leasing, no clawback back then.

The only clawback that will be occurring is their commission on any rate markup

$13k in rebates only available by leasing. I get another $6k total in state rebates post sale. Immediate buy out is $33k (MSRP $50k).

Lease prohibits use of vehicle for hire and I don’t want to be at risk if something happens.

Also, surprisingly, the RZ is a very, very nice car. It’s slow (0-60 and charging speed), but for what it is, it’s really nice.

Looking at it 3 years down the line, it should still be worth $15k. Maybe more. Maybe less. But it’s going to be a good car.

450e is actually pretty fast 0-60. Sounds like you’re looking at 300 though? It’ll probably be worth much more than 15K in 3 years.

Yes, 300e. 266 miles of range (when warm), 0-60 in almost 8 seconds. But, uber-comfy. Well-built. I think it will be worth $20k private party in 3 years. Maybe a little more. So I’ll have upside.

FWIW the residual on the lease contract (36/15k) is 40% / $20k too. So Lexus agrees.

I don’t think there is rate mark up. It’s down to .00105. I did originally opt for the end of lease protection for $875, but that gets canceled when I buy it out.

So they’re losing that $

I was told the same thing from a norcal dealer.

Does the same dealer offer ‘add ons’ at a 1000% markup? That’s your answer.
