Lemon Car Surrender

Hi all,

So I am surrendering my car in a few days under the CA lemon law (car was a headache starting from Day 1 essentially). As part of the surrender process they ask that the car be in original condition etc., which makes total sense.

Now obviously I did not make any real modifications to the vehicle - but I did tint the windows. I am wondering whether I should remove the tints or whether this will be a non-issue given its a fairly light and how many cars come tinted by the dealership already…

Has anyone had relevant experience? Obviously the safe thing to do is to remove the tints but if I can avoid the time expense that would be great…Thanks all in advance.

They aren’t going to make you de-tint the windows to ground a lemon. Worst case pretend it was delivered that way.

tints are going to be fine, did you put a tuning kit on it? if so, that needs to be fixed.

Yeah figured the same - appreciate the response!

Can’t wait for my buyback to be complete. 2024 Ram TRX. I got the OK for buy back on 1/5 and finally got an email yesterday with the process. Hopefully its quick from here.

The only thing better than finally grounding a :lemon: is cashing the check.

Totally $105k

Not having a lemon is better than grounding one or getting a check.

Especially holds true if you’ve had no other access to a car.

I agree - like I am happy that I am getting rid of a headache here but if I could just get a reliable car from day one and not spend the time I did at Service Centers and on the phone dealing with issues, I would totally choose that.

Issue now is that I basically have about 5-6 days to get a new car and I have 0 clue what the fuck I want.

did you use a lawyer or just did all the legwork yourself?

At least in CA there is little incentive to do things yourself given that the lawyer fees get paid out by the manufacturer pursuant to the relevant CA statute.

Yes but Cody is a Toyota dealer, so I was interested on how he did it specifically.

Can anyone recommend a good lemon lawyer for benz in NJ

Ideally you’d work with the dealership/manufacturer first to try a buyback before the thing goes to lemon-territory.

Involving lawyers and the Song Beverly Act malarkey will tack on about 2 extra months of BS before you get your check. A buyback could be completed in weeks without the lawyers involved.

I worked with RAM customer support directly. Mine was a bit more difficult. Bought in Louisiana. Registered in Montana. Serviced in CA

Truck was as J Star 2 weeks. Then i picked it up and dropped and Tuttle Click. It’s been there 6 weeks. They just started the repair last week.

That must’ve been some fun explaining.

They were very confused. Basically told me they would call me back. The last email they stated they would used whichever lemon laws that were the most beneficial to me

Man I wonder which lawyer in which state would have to take that up if you went the lawyer route…lol

I was afraid to open that can of worms. I just kept on Ram support hard.

Teach me how to convince a dealer to agree to this
