Leasing through dealer vs broker? What are pro/cons of each?

Hi,

I am starting to look into our next vehicle, I live in an area where Audi dealers usually don’t really negotiate or like to negotiate much. (SF Bay Area)

I am looking if I should go through a broker or a dealership to negotiate on the next vehicle? We would have loyalty since current lease is ending in several months.

What are the pro/cons of a broker?
What are the pro/cons of a dealer?

Has anyone used a broker in the SF Bay Area? I’m even willing to fly my family to LA to pickup a car if it means I get a better deal.

Dealer

  • 4 Hours of negotiating with Dealer and his boss
  • 1 Hour of negotiating with Finance
  • Only get a car that is on their lot.
  • Walking Away with a feeling of getting a good deal (Whether or not it was)

Broker

  • Biting nails waiting for them to answer your text / call
  • Agonizing over paying their free
  • Trying to make sure they aren’t con artists (All older LH Brokers aren’t)
  • Saving 5 hours.
  • Thinking I bet I can spend 5 hours in the dealership and get the same or better deal.
  • Getting a choice of Cars
  • Having to drive to a farther location to get the car you want instead of going to the local dealer
    • Or having the car delivered and paying the Delivery Fee (up to $2000)
  • Ignoring the Broker if you don’t like their deal

I leave it up to you on which are Pros and which are Cons

If you search the forum this has been discussed many times before.

Taking a step back, you need to realize not all OEMs push leases to the same degree. Even in the good times Audi rarely incentivized leases as much as some of its competitors.

Whether you negotiate by yourself or via a broker, those facts will not change.

I think the answer to that is obvious. Just check out marketplace in the California section.

Can get a better deal with the dealer if you play the game right.

Feeling guilty of asking too many questions.

There’s no cons to talking to and getting a quote from a broker. If you can’t beat their price then you just pay them to do the work if you want.

That’s a perpetual “con” w/ me, regardless of whether I’m buying a car or not!

Anybody have a guilty pleasure of wanting to talk to the dealer despite having a broker. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Sure! There’s definitely a thrill of getting your own deal.

Granted, car shopping isn’t always fun. In fact, most times the process is the complete opposite of fun. But when you do succeed in getting a good deal, that’s priceless…

Added bonus, is that you learn/develop a skill that you can use again in the future!
