How does your store not pay or compensate you for returning from a vehicle delivery? I don’t get this biz model, are you a broker or dealer? Because I thought you were a dealership employee.
I am a the new car sales manager at Empire Volvo. As for not paying me, do you think I post all of the happy thoughts that I do because I am getting paid for delivering cars to philly and not getting home till 3am? Do you think I like this? I got ONE 8 on the 4th of this month, I am ineligible for ANY volume or CSI bonuses for the MONTH. That means my compensation is $150 per car. News flash, an uber or lyft from Staten Island to Smithtown is $200+, getting one from Staten Island to Brooklyn, to take a subway to Woodside then a LIRR train ride for $20 more to then take ANOTHER uber from the train station to the store aint fun either.
Bud I am eating my vegetables so I can get move up in my automotive group.
I didn’t mean to offend you, I’ve read lots of your posts. This is a tough biz but I am just confused, is it normal for dealers to deliver cars that far? I’ve only ever picked up myself so I have no clue how it works.
Why won’t the dealer cover your return travel expenses? Seems really messed up.
Edit: also is it normal for dealers (or any employers) to require employees to go somewhere and force them to cover their work travel costs? Just seems very illegal
I’ve literally never heard of any sales manager getting paid per unit or delivering cars
If we hit our “target” for volume AND CSI I get paid. I can help my desking, appraising, TO’ing, being back up finance manager OR any deal I write I get a flat BUT it counts towards the stores total. I take a hit financially (PERSONAL) on some deals but others help add to the total monthly compensation. On a day where the GSM, GM and finance manager are in the store I can write deals through the forum or help any local “business” deliver cars. On days when my GSM goes to watch the Knicks, my GM has training or my Finance manager plays softball I do actual store stuff.
I promise my aggravation is not directed at you.
Yeah no kidding. But if this is the path they want me to take to GSM (THE BEST JOB IN THE BUSINESS, 300k compensation without the GM pressure) I will take it
I mean I’m all for opportunity but they’re putting you together. They should be reimbursing your travel / ubers and paying you a % of net like every other dealership. I have 6 years in the business and arguably the best gig. GSM’s do have a lot of stress and pressure, you just have more job security.
They dont reimburse anything. I will admit I was put at this store and given this “assignment” to see if I was a “team player”. In my younger years in this business, I’ve been in since 08, I garnered a reputation for going out of my way to dunk on/ make look bad the “nepo babies”. IE going after the GM’s kid brother in finance or going out of my way to make the Comptroller’s son look bad. Now I am showing that I can be a good boy and eat a ton of vegetables with a smile on my face. That’s why I come in on my off days or do this remote delivery stuff.
My best friend is a GSM and he goes home at 5pm every day, never shows up on his day off. Never made less than 300 in that role. My current GSM loves his role because there is far less pressure than GM.
I wish I did it this way, it would have been easier. Then again it wouldn’t have been me…
I think Grayson Murray is a better bet to win the next PGA tour event than me making GSM anytime soon
If the GMs are like all the GM’s I’ve ever met… they’d dangle that GSM carrot in front of Keith while he does all this hustle work to keep the showroom side expense ratio low.
Then promote their nephew to GSM after Keith commits suicide. Best part is the group health plan may get a level funding refund when he passes.
Then move to a store / brand that isn’t shit?
@Cody_Carter is full service!!!
California - doesn’t longo move the most units in the world?
Cody’s dealer is a money printer
Wichita on the other hand - IDK business seems to pick up every Q1 - when the prior model year needs to be moved
That’s not what your website says
Unfortunately that is what I do on a day to day basis. I wish it was just fleet stuff
