It was leased in NJ.
The sales person said, it is going to be $525 sign and drive. I went to the dealership, the finance guy showed me a paperwork which said $6400 due at signing. However, a section described “How the amount due at Lease Signing or Delivery will be paid (item 2)”:. It said, $4000 in rebates and $2399.19 is amount to be paid in cash (item 3)

However, the finance person repeated without explanation, “you owe us nothing”, and infact they didnt charge me the first months payment nor the $2399.19 when I drove out.

Sales person also repeatedly assured me this is real, and I do not have to worry about it and I am not going to get any surprises.

Anyone has experience with this unusual experience?

Please elaborate. Is it common for them to waive the “due at signing to be paid in cash” amount and hopefully they are not scamming me, or is it common for them to scam customers in this fashion?

Doesn’t seem like a scam. You are getting what you asked for. They are structuring the deal to be more advantageous for them.
