The lease just started, it’s at $440/month before tax, and I’m curious if there would be interest in taking this over by somebody? update The car comes with up to $5k of excess wear and tear (which also covers tires). You can keep the lease protection, and get a $400 cash incentive, or we can cancel the protection and get you a $2k cash incentive.
I’m noticing that the all-electric range really isn’t enough for me, even though I’m very close to my office, and so I’m trying to get into an i3 instead, that’s why I want out.
You might want to post it on Craigslist or swaplease. With Bay Area tax that’s $480 a month. Recently people been getting pretty good deal on 330e. Might be hard for people to bite on that payment.
At minimum, your payment after incentive will need to be <$399 to move it on the forum, given the rate of which these are flying off lots and into garages.
Gotcha, thanks for the info. So my options would be to either:
swapalease/craigslist
add maybe a $2000 cash incentive here?
One more question: I saw on BMWFS that the vehicle’s VIN is not assumable, and read some anecdotal comments about that being to the lease just started (first 6 months) but others claiming that it’s okay from the get-go. Can someone shed some light on whether I can transfer a BMWFS leased car within the first 6 months?
If you’re typing your VIN into the BMWFS Lease Assumption website, it’s going to show as not assumable until you call into BMWFS and get the ball rolling. They won’t release it to start the process until that point.
Yes, you can transfer a lease within first six month on a BMW, just not the last six months.
Yeah, I think if you put a $2k incentive, someone on the forum will likely take it. You can probably get away with less if you post it to a lease trading site, though it probably will be more hassle.
Again, thanks for the great help you guys on the info.
One thing about excess wear and tear. So I got it on the car, and paid it not in the lease. So I have the option to either cancel it before transfer & get the money back, or to transfer it to the new person.
I’m getting conflicting information on how transferable it is.
BMWFS on the phone said it’s not transferrable
Their brochure online says it’s transferable up to 24 months which seems odd to me as it’s a lease protection?
Dealer said it’s transferable and a selling point “as it’s only buyable when you enter the contract”
Wondering if someone could shed some light on
transfer-ability
getting a refund & throwing that into the cash incentive vs transferring it.
It cost $1800 so I assume I should be able to recover at least $1600 after prorated & some cancellation fee.
If you have an opportunity to refund it (even prorated), you should absolutely do it. It’ll make this way easier to transfer. Eliminate the risk of any surprises around transferring it.
I transfer my 330e out last month, and the lease end protection is transferable. you can call the lease end protection department at 866-936-0211to verify(they will ask for your last 8 VIN number). It cost $25 to transfer the policy to the new owner(they only take physical check).
If you want to get refund, you can too, it’s prorated. Lot of people want that lease end protection plan just cause how bad the roads can get around here in Bay Area.
I think you can get away with it without the incentives on Craigslist . Since you got the lease end protection plan which tell people that will cover up to $5000 damage.
The lease deal is pretty expensive especially that BMW of San Antonio has 2018 330e ex-loaner for cheap. I got mine at $52k msrp for $145/mo (after federal tax credit and state rebate). $480/mo on yours will be a tough pill to swallow. Just my $0.02
I think it’s lower in norcal to be honest. But I think the message has been conveyed, so at this point OP should try to get as much as he can for the car. And if it doesn’t work out he’s free to drop the pricing if he wants.
