Carmax will buy it and send it to auction. Dealer may take it but it will likely be more headache for them.
In SoCal, anything that could be a daily driver is worth at least a grand by selling it yourself to a private party. No matter what it looks like. If it runs you can sell it. If it doesn’t run it’s worth a few hundred dollars to a junker or just for the scrap metal.
As a trade-in it’s worthless.
All depends how motivated the dealership is if they want to make the deal. Early this month my neighbor asked if I could help get into a cheap Toyota lease. He had a 1996 Explorer. He wanted $3k for it and I suggested autotrader/craigslist but he didn’t want to deal with the hassle. So after I got the low quotes then I asked about trade in. They offered half of what he wanted for it but he took it (the car needed smog cert, one window didn’t work and the rest of the car was a mess).
I got $500 for a trade in on my 2008 versa that was rear ended but still driveable, and other things broken

If it runs and drives and is even moderately presentable, I’d throw it on craigslist. Up here in Seattle, if your car runs and drives, it is worth $3000 at a minimum.
Def sell privately. There are fans of the older LS out there. Some people consider the first and second gen to be some of the best engineered cars of their era

Sorry - just saw you asked about an LS430. You should be able to get some good money for the LS selling it privately. Depending on condition and mileage I’d guess $5000-$6000.
I forget, did they start using Mark Levinson audio in the LS430, or were they still using Nakamichi?
