Lease return windshield crack VW

I have a 2019 VW egolf lease ending next month.

It has a stone chip on the windshield. There is some spidering so I think it’s considered a crack.

I paid for the VW lease wear protection but I think it only covers small chips and not cracks.

Question is can I replace it with an aftermarket windshield?

When my 2017 VW eGolf had a crack when I got it inspected it was $450. If you can get a windshield for less…go for it.

Hang on , did you buy VW Lease End Protection ? If so isn’t that 10k of overages?

You should have full glass coverage with your insurance. I had to replace a windshield with Geico and it was aftermarket. No big deal, not even noticed.

Glass coverage requirements for insurance vary by state.

In California, glass coverage is subject to deductible.

What does the language of your protection plan say?

What state are you in? A few states such as SC and Florida, insurance replaces the windshield at no cost.

New York as well, did it twice with Geico

I replaced one through my insurance (Geico) in CA once. If you have them repair it through Safelite, they waive your deductible.

I am in California. I have a deductible

Safelite said windshield can’t be repaired. Must be replaced

I called local vw dealer. They said to do a pre end of lease inspection then decide to fix it or not based on cost.

Also the dealer may buy the car outright so I dont have to turn it in. The buyout it below market value. Car only has 15000 miles.

If they can buy it based on what they can buy it at auction they will. They aren’t going to overpay for it either though. Having a cracked windshield will lower its value. Just having 15000 miles alone helps it’s cause, but they aren’t going to give top dollar either knowing they will have to pay to repair it.

Reach out to your insurance company and see if anything is waived or covered for using a specific company etc for replacement. Either way as long as the windshield is replaced with the same oem specs no one will say anything, nor will they notice.

UPDATE:

Lease return inspector came to do the inspection.

The windshield is covered by the VW excess wear protection. Tires were just barely above recommended also but they would have been covered too if I needed to replace them.

I pay nothing. Car will get returned without any work done to it.

We paid a very discounted rate on that excess wear coverage so it paid for itself.

The inspector said windshield damage charge is $350 per VW so in that case I would have probably just paid that anyway.
