Lease Return / Jaguar F-Type

,

Hi there,

I’ll will finally be returning my '17 Jaguar F-Type S AWD after extending the lease period. The car is immaculate, with 19,5xx miles. I was considering purchasing, but I was told the buyout is non-negotiable @ $52,xxx. I know I will have to replace all 4 tires and I was wondering if the $1,000 wear and tear credit through Chase will cover the tires. The reason I ask is that the last car my wife leased through Chase applied the credit towards tire replacement (albeit it was a different make). If not, I’m probably better off replacing the tires myself. I was reading that they should match and have the same speed rating, but am I able to switch to a different brand without penalty? They came with Pirelli P-Zero non run-flats. Can I switch to Yokohama or Kuhmo, etc? Also, I’m holding out hope that the dealer will purchase the car and save me the disposition fee. Any metro area dealers that are easier to work with? Thanks in advance.

Rating, run flat, and size is general ROT, but check your contract for info on tires.

Hi. Found my contract which cites the following:

In addition, you will owe us the full cost of any missing, damaged or mismatched tires (including spare), any tire that has less than 1/8 inch tread at its lowest point or that is not comparable in quality to the original equipment.

Just curious what comparable quality means . . .

That generally means you can’t put some no-name brand on there and call it a day. You need to put tires that have the same speed rating, load rating, etc. but you don’t need to put OEM tires on the car. I’ve turned in a lot of Mercedes and BMW leases, and what I usually do is look for a set of tires on bestusedtires.com. They sell mostly tires that are pulled from cars in good condition with mild to moderate treadwear, so I will pick up a set that meets the requirements that has enough tread left and turn in the car. I’ve never had anyone say a thing about it.

Thanks for the reply. I think I’m going to go with Kuhmo Ecstas that match the speed rating and have a slightly higher load rating.
