Lease Noob Needing Advice

,

First time leasehackr here. I went to a local Audi dealership today and test drove a used S5 Sportback, a car I’ve wanted for a few years. They didn’t have any new ones in stock, but of course wanted me to deal on one that they had on order. The guy would only talk monthly payment and didn’t seem to know anything about leases. Kept saying the monthly payment is all that mattered at the end. Wouldn’t show me numbers with MF or RV either, also said Audi doesn’t do MSD’s at all which I don’t believe.

Not going to bother posting what he was offering. I know it’s a bad offer but I didn’t even get into negotiations to get his sale price down because I wanted more time to think and didn’t like his pushiness. I did want to ask what advice you all could offer for how to get the real numbers from salesmen? I got numbers from Edmunds this morning on MF and RV so I’m hopefully prepared. I’d also love any recommendations of Audi dealers/sales folks in the Dallas area. Going to talk to a different dealer tomorrow, hoping it goes better! I appreciate any advice.

Do not go in person to talk to them, a lot of them rush you in and throw stuff at you and by the time you catch on what’s happening you already signed and it’s too late. Email a template(which you can find some on the forum) to several dealerships and take it from there.

Sales manager* don’t email it to a sales person, many will have no clue wth this lead is saying.

Texas charges sales tax on selling price of car, just another factor. Speak to @iac they may be able to at least point you in a direction.

Thanks, I’ll find the template and get some numbers before going in again. Appreciate the advice.

Thanks. I’ll reach out to them. The tax laws suck for that here, hoping there are some ways to improve that situation.

There are! Certain cars have financial service provided tax credits reducing tax to what like 1.5%. Ashleigh and Chris have a better read of the tx market than I ever could.

Personally, I don’t see any need to get numbers from salesmen. You should know exactly what the car should lease for and what numbers are needed to get there before you ever talk numbers with a dealer. I prefer to approach them with a very well researched offer and let them decide if they want to do the deal rather than ask them what they want me to pay.
