Lease Incentive Question - Acura RDX - Buying vs Leasing

Hi,

I’m on the fence between leasing or buying an Acura RDX. I ended up buying out my last Acura lease as there were supply constraints and I loved the car.

I just want to make sure I understand how ‘dealer cash’ works. As I understand it, the RDX I’m looking at currently has $2900 in dealer cash and $1000 in Loyalty/Conquest cash.

The model I’m looking at has an MSRP of $48.060. The selling price the dealer is giving me for buying it is $43,000. And says that would be the same cap cost if I leased it.

That’s about 10% off MSRP. The only add-ons on the offer sheet are sales tax and $395 in fees. I live in Texas, so unfortunately I have to pay sales tax on the entire amount.

Is the dealer cash they get from Acura different on leases than purchasing? If it’s lease only…it feels like there is still room to get a lower price.

They are not giving you much of a discount off MSRP if they are including the $3900 in dealer cash and rebates. I don’t know the market for these vehicles, but I think more like 6% off MSRP plus the $3900 in dealer cash is a good starting point.

what are they quoting you per month?

As a reference point, I saw a CA broker advertising an RDX lease for $539 with $2K DAS. TX lease will be higher due to tax structure alone.

Possibly.

The pre-incentive/rebate selling price doesn’t change btw a lease and purchase, so what the dealer told you is technically correct (although I don’t think the term “capitalized cost” is used when you’re financing a car).

The adjusted cap cost of a lease might be quite different than the amount financed in a purchase b/c of lease-only rebates and such.

They quoted $567 for a 36/10 if I paid the taxes upfront. As you mentioned, you get taxed on the whole purchase rather than monthly so it’s a bit higher.
