I’m in California.
I’m seeing 24 month MB leases and threads where people say you can extend by 6 months.
Can anyone tell me if this is easy to do and if MBFS always accepts the extension, or if it’s hard and they rarely do?
thanks!

2 months is pretty much guaranteed and easy. Anything after that either requires an order or at mercy of MBFS.
Thanks for this information! I was hoping to hear that six months was pretty easy to get. Two months just isn’t enough with transaction costs! Gotta spread those over 36.
during Covid it was easy…now a days?
In CA, why would you want to pay for an entire year of registration you won’t use?
And if you read the thread on EV tire wear, why risk having to replace tires?
Ok I’m interested. thanks for asking these questions.
I started off wanting a 36 month lease realizing that yes I would probably need new tires and would pay for California. But I didn’t do any of the numbers so maybe that’s what I need to do now, I think you are suggesting.
My drive off is 3500+700 broker fee. $175/mo on a 24, 116 on 36 mo.
The extra year would get me the good lease rate my broker is getting me, and another year amortizing the transaction costs.
However for that extra year I’d pay reg and wheels. Call that $2k? I’m not sure. $166 a month if so.
And so basically maybe 24 and 36 aren’t that different other than I have to (get to?) find abother lease 1 yr earlier than I wanted.
Which is not ideal.
But, is that all basically how I should be thinking about this?
A lease doesn’t have to be a TCO analysis but if that’s what you’re doing:
(Broker fee + acq + total payments + maintenance + consumables + TTL fees) / term
Also get an estimate for your insurance and compare that cost over the term, knowing it will be higher in year 2/3.
Then yeah, include as much as you know. MB ICE/PHEVs require paid maintenance. Lux EVs in CA are more expensive in Year 2+. What is the per tire cost if you need to add 2/4 in the out years?
You also don’t have to take the 24 months term, it’s a matter of how much better a deal it is over the shorter term (~6%+ on residual)
Thanks. This is really helpful. Among various things you mentioned, I didn’t realize that MB PHEV leases come with a required maintenance plan. I need to figure out how much that is.
They don’t come with it, they require maintenance and you either pay at time of service or purchase prepaid maintenance. You should always research the maintenance schedule and costs for A/B service on that vehicle from your dealer.
Right, that’s what I meant (forced to). Not something I’ve researched, guess that’s my next step.
