I’m currently leasing a 2022 jeep grand Cherokee. 39 month lease / 10,000 per year so 32,500 in total. I have already used 29,000 miles and my lease period ends in July (so still have some time left unfortunately).
Need some guidance on my options. Do I go back to original dealer and try to get into a new new jeep (which I rather not do) or do I see if I can return early? Does it matter if I go back to original dealer?
Let’s agree this option never existed and remove it from the list.
Check your lease contract for your over mileage fee and be ready to write a check with the disposition fee. Maybe Stellantis will offer a pull-ahead between now and July
If you return it early, all you are doing is putting that Neg equity into your next car. The dealer loves you for giving them a car and you pay for all the negative equity.
If you return it at the end, you pay some over miles fee but I would suspect it’s less than the neg equity.
Lease ending in July is more like 9 months from now not 6, have you thought about buying it out??? Probably not a good idea, but it’s an option (check your RV in the contract)
I would suggest, leasing an Ioniq 5 EV for 24 months and park the Jeep and use for errands only… If you try and return early-they will most likely slap an Early Termination fee (again, check your lease contract )
Another option, like many above suggested just pay the overage, won’t be more than $0.25/mile you’re probably looking at $2K +/-
Look at it this way. You got more use out of the car than you paid for and expected so you probably need to settle up at the end. Really no different than coming in under miles except that you already paid for the miles you didn’t use in your payment.
You are already paying the monthly lease payment. Why would you simply park the vehicle while still making payments just to save a few grand 9 months from now?
I had this situation back in 2017 with my GS350. I had about 6 months left and I was 3,000 miles over at that point. What I decided to do was purchase an older vehicle to daily drive. I figured if I was gonna pay an overage, I could put that money towards another vehicle instead. 7 years later I still have it and no longer worry about putting too many miles on my “good” cars. I know that was a different time and used cars aren’t that cheap anymore but it’s an option.
