Large 2 Row/Small 3 Row SUV - Light Off-road

Just curious to see what you guys recommend as a 3 Row or 2 Row that’s the size of a 3 row. My friends and I like to venture out into the boonies. Just finished my lease with a GLC and that was a bit too small to fit passengers and stuff in the trunk. Borderline had enough ground clearance too (7-ish inches).

Right now the top pick seems to be a GX460. Land Rover Discovery seemed interesting but appears to be my the same size as my GLC with a 3rd row.

Pickups are good but whenever I transport stuff, it usually needs to be covered or extra passengers so SUV makes most sense.

Other ones I’ve looked at are the GLE, X5, RX350L, Q7, 4Runner (Leases poorly), Expedition (leases poorly), QX60 (low clearance),

A LR Discovery (full size) is much larger than a GLC

People often confused between Discovery (Range Rover Sport cousin) vs Discovery Sport (RR Evoque based)

You’re right I did mix them up. Thanks guys! I looked at the Discovery Sport originally. I liked the Discovery Sport so the larger Discovery looks really good. I’m watching reviews on it now but it looks like exactly what I’m looking for. LR Discovery and the GX460 are now my top 2.

Something that people generally overlook on the GX460 is the rear barn door swings to the right which makes loading from the curbside difficult.

But then getting the Lexus will probably save you $200 dollars a month over the Disco V. Assuming you need a 7 seater package and some nice interior which puts you in the HSE range right away.

I have some fantastic deals on them but they are much pricier than a GX

OP is in CA … based on the post on Wanted thread

Woooops

Thanks!

Add Q7 and X5 (2019) to the list of those leasing poorly. What about the MDX? I also enjoyed my fully-loaded Explorer as the trunk is much bigger than most other vehicles in its class although it will be redesigned for 2020.

How much pricier? They seem to have the nearly the same MSRP.

Yep in SoCal

Good tip. I’m relocating away from SD to a more sparsely populated area with ample parking so I’m not too worried about it. I usually park further away anyways.

I still see deals pop up for loaners and such for X5/Q7. I almost never see a deal on the Expedition/Ford Trucks/SUVs. I had Lincoln Navigator for years. Someone posted an X5 xDrive deal for around $550 earlier.

Acura MDX seems to have similar ground clearance to the GLC. Looking for another inch or so.

You can likely still get a good loaner deal on a ‘18 X5 but that model year will likely no longer be leasable at the end of Feb or March, so you may have to act fast. FYI - The X5 trunk is pretty small (similar to a Grand Cherokee) and the 3rd row is a joke. 2019s are actually slightly smaller and $700+/month for a base model as there are no incentives and limiting discounting being offered.

I haven’t seen any deals on a Q7 as their MF and RV and worse than BMW. Likely above $700 or more no matter what while you could snag a X5 under $600/month.

I turned in my GLC yesterday so I’m on the market. Probably going to get something in the next 2 weeks. Looks like I’m just in time to snag one of the remaining 2018’s.

Surprised you didn’t consider the leftover GLE400.
You can still get it and maybe get your turn-in fee back from MBFS.

I actually did a lease buyout with the GLC (carvana) because I was 15K miles over. Saved myself about 4K.

what about the xc40

List of SUVs with the most ground clearance. Not sure how each of these lease, though.

Thanks for the list. Departure, Breakover, and Approach angles make a big difference too. Infiniti/Volvos have decent ground clearance but their departure and approach angles make them poor choices for offroading. Again I’m not looking to heavy off-road (Jeep/Humvee territory). GLC was decent offroad, just looking for something slightly better than that.

XC40 is a bit small. I’m looking for at XC90 size.
