Just had my lease-end inspection done by AutoVin. I was cautiously optimistic because he said my car was in great condition with the exception of needing 2 new front tires. It would be ideal to just throw on 2 new tires and hand the car over but has anyone ever experienced a discrepancy between AutoVin and BMW’s inspections? I don’t want to get slapped with a bill even though I have a few nicks on the hood and bumper.
Before you just turn the car back in, did you run it to see if you have any equity?
Check to see what the fee is on 2 tires vs replacing them. It may be cheaper to just let it go back with tires that are not up to snuff.
They allow for a few scratches and dings. I believe the tires have to match.
How would equity be determined? I am at 24k on a 30k lease. Perhaps that goes in my favor?
Good idea! I hear BMW charges close to $300 a tire though.
Call BMW financial or whoever your leasing company is. Or if it is thru BMW see if you have somewhere on your online portal a spot where it says request buyout amount or payoff amount or something to that effect. You would need to see what it would cost to buy the car. Say it is $20k, but a dealer is offering you $25k to buy it, you walk away with a $5k equity check. A BMW can only be bought out by an BMW dealer or a dealership that has a BMW under their umbrella such as Autonation. There are a few brokers here who buy out BMW as well. Even if it is only a few hundred bucks equity, it beats being in the hole for new tires and disposition fee etc.
Just had one as well for Volvo - they put an estimated charge of $70 for a Check Stop/Go System Lamp
Also, about $400 for 1 tire - so my question is - do I need to replace all 4 similar ones or just get this one.
Thank you!
Yes you trust them, the inspection is the final say. As long as you’ve had the inspection and any damage/charges are noted then you’re not going to get hit with any other charges after turn in.
The dealer you turn it into really doesn’t care, they are just a facilitator for getting the car back to BMW/auction. They’re not going to go over the car again with a fine tooth comb and try to nickel and dime you on a scratch or ding that the inspection didn’t charge you for.
Paying $400 is cheaper then replacing all 4, even with the used ones, no? Or find 1 matching used one with around the same thread as 3 others.
oh that’s great! I don’t think I can find even used tires at 400 - so I might just as well pay 400 for one?
