Jeep Grand Cherokee Reliable? Thoughts before making purchase

I’ve been hearing that Jeep Grand Cherokee’s are having a lot of issues lately.
Any recommendations to stay away or not worry?
Thank You

This is why we lease…

This is purely anecdotal:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the only new vehicle I have looked at where multiple brand new vehicles I test drove had buttons falling out of the dash.

That’s embarrassing for Jeep

Consumer Reports recently added the Jeep GC to it’s recommended list due to improved quality. This article lists 12 vehicles that lost recommendation and 20 that gained it.

Had one for three years. Service department was awful, even with recalls with one being cause of death for Hollywood actor :man_shrugging:

I can only relate my experience which may or may not be typical. I owned a 2014 and for the first 4 1/2 years and 41K miles had no problems at all. The I started to get some leaks which were covered by the powertrain warranty. My wife drives the car and loves it. I traded it in on a 2018 and bought the lifetime warranty (no mileage or time limits) which FCA no longer sells. Have now owned it for 21 months and have had no problems except for a software glitch with Apple Car Play that was fixed with an update. Based on my experience, should be good with a 3 yr lease.

I would never recommend a Chrysler product, let alone any manufacturer for longer then 36 months. The best lease options are typically 39 and 42. There’s a reason for that, they build those terms into their inevitable profit margin from maintenance.

Some of my Toyota deals are 39 months and I always warn people of the lack of warranty for 3 months. This is certainly less of a risk for Toyota, but still a risk nevertheless. If doing a longer term lease to get a lower payment, it would be wise to transfer your lease after 2 years or so…

purchase a FCA product? LOL

We have a 2017 SRT Jeep with 30k miles on it now, and it’s been a great car. The only complaint I have is the cheap carbon fiber trim on the dash has warped in one spot, but I plan to take it in to have it fixed under warranty.

I’ll definitely be buying the extended warranty in the coming months when the factory warranty expires.

No don’t even do that. I have a leased 2019 Cherokee, and I cannot explain what issues I am having with that car. It’s a v6, and starting from engine shutting down on freeway, to u connect doing wrong navigation, radio not working, to audio been faded only at 16k miles. I bought extra miles so paying higher premium, plus rolled my last leases payments into this one. At 350 a month, with zero down, through Ally, I was happy at the offer. It’s a limited version. But if you live your life, stay away from Jeep. I lived in Midwest and so needed one 4*4. I repent every single day in my life why I leased that car. Seriously, it’s not a joke. I had Nissan Maxima , Camry xle before. Amazing cars. Stay away from FCA if you live yourself. Also, the FCA customer care will treat u as a pig and will not reply back any of your emails or phone calls. And don’t need to trust me, I have posted on Jeep Cherokee forum , you can find my post . Made some angry old :joy: dudes more angry :rage::angry: and mod closed my thread.
