Jeep 4xe battery dead won’t jump

Hi ‘22 won’t start jumped in the back panel system goes on but then dies out. @mllcb42 ? Is my battery fried?

What does this mean?

12v batteries failing is very common.

According to Google you’re supposed to jump it from back panel in the trunk. Am I wrong ? Tried in front as well…
What does it mean that engine shuts after a few seconds?

Does the jeep turn off or the engine just turns off?

Jumping a 4xe doesnt jump start the engine. It just gives the 12v some juice to close the hv contacts and bring the computers up.

It doesnt really need amps pushed to it, it needs to be plugged into another battery long enough to bring the 12v voltage up.

If it was completely dead and you got it to come to life after hooking up jumper cables, its a hood indicator your 12v battery is bad.

Engine came on but then shut down including electrical when removed from other battery, tried keeping it on for a few minutes and it started smoking. Will need to tow this

Yah, that’s definitely a problem. Smoking from the engine?

Electrical panel in the trunk where I was boosting it from

wtf did you do.

For future reference, you can jump off the jump points under the hood, you just need to have someone push down on the hood closed sensor when you turn the vehicle on.

Whoever heard of fooling a sensor in order to boost a car ??
Google said when it dead you need to use back panel.
Jeep :wastebasket:

How’d that go for you?

Not well I agree on that. Doesn’t explain the stupidity of not being able to boost this car like any other vehicle

The hood interlock is there to keep people from energizing the high voltage components and killing themselves while they poke around under the hood with it on.

The real stupidity is that the owner’s manual says to jump it like normal and doesn’t discuss that it won’t work with the hood open.

True. Either way not sure I want to jump a car with hv electric fuses

What’s the back panel for ?

It’s one of the fuse blocks.

You could always just go straight to the 12v battery. It’s under the spare tire.

So how’s one to jump this car without risking death ?

Go from the front and press down on the hood sensor or just go straight to the 12v battery is what I would do.

Just have it towed. Hopefully still under warranty
