It looks like Toyota is paying/bribing people to check for Takata airbags now?

I got some pop-up offering me a free Domino’s pizza gift card if I checked my plates or VIN on their airbag database. It looks like a Toyota run/partner thing called the Carma Project, but you can check any plate or Vin to be eligible for the gift card. If anyone is interested I’ll post the link, there does appear to be a referral incentive of some sorts involved, but at the very least you can get some subsidized pizza (I think Domino’s legally qualifies as pizza) for your troubles.

Just sold them a Rav4. They are gonna retrofit it with plates scanners

It’s obviously a serious problem that needs to be addressed, and most people don’t take recall notices seriously. But that’s gonna get kind of creepy if Auto makers are going to start actively scanning plates and getting more aggressive with getting these cars off the road. I don’t know how I’d feel about someone knocking on my door to tell me that my car might kill me, but I’m usually the type of person who would address this type of thing right away.
