Looking to purchase a used 45e as my SUV hybrid was recently totaled.
I am currently looking at a used 2022 45e with the following packages:
Driver Assistance Pro
Climate Comfort
Parking Assistant
M Sport
Executive
Harman/Kardon
Extended Merino Leather
Alcantara Headliner
The car is not CPO and currently has less than 31200 miles. This would be in California and wanted to see what you guys would think for a purchase price of 54k pretax?
OR
Is it a better deal to pay 43k (POST tax) for a 2022 45e with <30k miles that only has the following packages:
When you include tax the first one would be ~$15k more expensive.
Really a personal decision of whether leather, H/K sound, and M-Sport are worth another $15k to you.
I’m no expert on the used X5e market, but given the two choices the first one seems way overpriced, no way on earth I’d fork over an additional $15k on a used hybrid just to get a few more options.
I’d take a closer look at the battery health of both cars. The battery itself is fairly small, and if driven mostly electric, your have a much shorter range than anticipated
That’s not really enough of a discount considering 3/4 of the warranty is over.
I’m not sure ownership out of warranty or successive 3yr old car purchases for 2 year ownership has a better TCO than buying new and owning for longer.
The sweet spot is trading in at the 4-5 year mark. 6 years and above—not desirable as cars that can be flipped as CPOs.
To chime in, wife has a 2022 X45e with about 33k miles. Battery range is as good today as it was new. Purchased new in Aug 2022. Well we did get new tires at 30k miles but other than that - no issues to speak off. We did not get the M sport, HK or Executive.
Also, benefit of being in CA is that plug-in hybrids have a 15 year / 150K mile warranty on emissions control systems which includes the battery unlike EVs! Search Autopian BMW i3 Rex warranty. David Tracy was able to get his battery swapped free, he goes pretty in depth about it across a few articles about the experience.
