Is Lexus lease warranty worth it?

$875 covers excessive wear and tear up to $8k on a 36mo lease for RX350. We kept our previous lease in good shape

More details needed, how many months lease/mileage per year?
if you would end up driving 40K+ by end of the lease, tire replacement alone is worth the extra wear and tear charge.

if not, I would still recommend for piece of mind

I have completed one lease term with one Lexus and started a new one. Did not get any damage insurance on either. They seem to be pretty easy going about minor scrapes or small dents. I had a small scrape on the bottom of the front bumper they didnt ding me for it. They also do a pre inspection a month or two before your lease is up and will tell you if you have any chargeable damage and give you a change to fix it. $875.00 is a good chunk of cash for something you might not even use.

12k 36months. Do you need tires to be new or just good by the end of the lease?

I got them to give it to me for $525… sometimes peace of mind is priceless… I have a 3 and 5 year old and their car seats already kinda messed up the leather lol.

I believe it is worth it. I was told the tires must have a min of 35% of the tread left at the end of the lease. On a 12k/36 mo there is a very good chance you will have to replace them . I drive hard so I know I will. I figure it will be $800 to replace the tires and a few extra bucks just in case some unforeseen damage occurs. Now if your lease is for 7500 miles a year then you should not need tires so perhaps the gamble is worth it. You should also negotiate the price of the insurance, it is negotiable. I hope this helps in your decision making process.

If you drive hard and the tires are bald, will you still keep the same tires like that in the last months before turn in? Unless you can time the tires getting bald, there’s no guarantee the wear and tear would even be useful because you might HAVE to replace the tires for you to drive before lease turn in.

We typically go over 36k anyway so this will increase likelihood of need the new tires. But warranty wear and tear works regardless of how many miles, correct?

Jon,

I’m betting that the tires won’t be bald, but will have less than the min 35% of tread required when returning the car. I also like the peace of mind that if for some reason there is significan damage up to $7500, i can turn the car in without any out of pocket expense. For another $20+ a month a prefer this additional fixed fee as opposed to a potential bill that can be much larger…

Depends on the road conditions/weather/driving style. From your previous exp, when did you end up changing tires? Like @Jayjay said in his comment, if you anyway end up turning in one lexus and leasing another from same dealership, you most probably dont need the extra coverage. Dealers eat up the cost to sell you new car. If you want to change car and just return your current car to lexus, they would play hard ball.

I usually take it because half way through my lease I am already itching to try different car.
