Is it possible to lease a new 2018 car in 2020? Is it worth it?

I’m looking into leasing a Fusion Energi/Plug-in Hybrid. A local dealer has a new 2018 in stock, MSRP $40K. All of the 18 model options (except sunroof) became standard for 19, and price for 19 model dropped to $36K. This explains why this particular car didn’t sell. It has parking assist, which wasn’t offered in 2019, so I do want this one. The sale price is $32,500.
An assistant’s assistant told me they don’t lease 2018s.

  • Is this true? Whether misinformed or lying, I’d like to know the truth.
  • The window sticker shows 5-17-18 at the bottom. Is it worth getting a car that’s been sitting for two years now?
*What’s a good monthly target for 2020 Energi?

Thank you for your advice!

Yes it’s true you can’t rent some 2019s anymore let alone 2018s

If you want the car, you’d have to finance it.

If you want to finance it, I would absolutely be trying to get as much money as possible off even that $32k sticker. I actually really like the Fusion (for a Ford product) but these things drop in value like crazy and resale is going to be peanuts in a coupla years time.

You can’t lease an 18 anymore.
