Is a VW Arteon Lease Crazy

Hello, I might want to lease a VW Arteon SEL Premium R-Line 4WD. Am I crazy? I live in CT

I looked on Edmunds and found this:
.00168 MF and 49% RV
$2000 dealer cash
I think this was for a NJ zip and not sure if it’s still correct?

Ik I don’t have tier 1 credit. Im not sure what else to look for or if there will be any wiggle room to take off of the MSRP price? Not too sure what the $2000 dealer cash is? Im new to leasing. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense.

I would first take some time to learn about leasing by reading Leasing 101. You haven’t posted what the terms of the lease are (36 mo/10K mi?).

Arteons don’t get discussed very much here (I don’t recall seeing any posts w/i the past few yrs). You can become a Super Supporter and see if there are any recent deal posted under Signed!.

You could check VW Vortex to see what people are getting off of MSRP (my vague memory is that some have gotten deep discounts b/c the Arteon doesn’t sell well). But you’d need a HUGE discount to compensate for the horrific RV.

Depending on the interest rate on a loan, I’d say that I don’t think leasing (instead of buying) an Arteon is a good idea…

Thank you for the knowledge! I’ll take a look at that forum. I think 2024 is the last year they are going to be made. But I can be wrong on that.
I would look into 36/10k.

That’s what’s been published in multiple reputable magazines, so that is correct.

A good lease depends on the bank providing good terms (favorable combination of MF, RV and rebates). That doesn’t really exist for any VW. At the moment.

They just don’t want those cars back.

I do like how Arteons look but with a program like that, I’d think an A5 Sportback could be in the same ballpark price-wise, and I’m not sure many would pick the VW in that scenario.

Thats true with the A5 Sportback, but the Arteon looks real cool lol

Did you end up getting an Arteon?

I’m still shopping around. nothing yet.

I got an Arteon back in 2021. The top trim. Got something like 16 off MSRP, and an mf of like .0001. With 0 DAS, my monthly payments were $579.00. A similarly specced A5 would have been about 300 more a month. I went with the Arteon because of all the tech built in, was a very impressive car. Engine left a lot to be desired at 275hp, but the newer Arteon’s are at 300hp and DSG transmission, so should ride better. Put a stage 1 tune on it and you are set.

Loved the Arteon, miss it everyday to be honest. If you go through my post history you will see a big thread discussion on whether a VW was worth the near 600 a month payment vs going into an A5. You’d be taking a base A5 at that monthly is pretty much what I found out.

What other cars are you looking at?

Dealers near me have remaining 2023 models listed for only 10% off MSRP + $2k dealer cash (lease/finance). I would consider financing the top trim (SEL Premium R-Line) if I can get at least 20% off off MSRP + dealer cash. Since there will be no 2024 model, I was hoping to find a motivated dealer. I got laughed at by one dealer, but they are still contacting me asking if there was anything else they can do for me. :joy:

A bit off topic, but were the big wheels a pain? I’m thinking of getting one later this year (since I assume they will still be offering huge amts off MSRP), but I neither need nor want 20" wheels (but the Motor Trend or Car and Driver article of the newest version says that the top trim drivers significantly better than does the base trim).

I thought there was to be a 2024 model for the final year?

Same here. However, a few weeks ago I spoke with a dealer and he said 2023 was the last production year of the Arteon.

I’ve had a 2014 Passat with 16’ wheels, 2016 Jetta GLI with 18’ wheels, 2017 Passat R Line with 19’ wheels, 2017 Passat Premium with 18’ wheels and the 21 Arteon with the 20’s and I could not for the life of me tell you a difference in ride quality.

This is because I have a terrible sense for ride quality. Honestly my mentality is BIG WHEELS GO BRRR. On my RAM 1500 right now I have the 22’s lol.

Go to Edmunds.com car forums and ask the moderator on the 2023 Arteon forum to give you the RV, MF and incentives for your lease term and specific zip code. Incentives vary region to region. I looked into leasing a 2021 Arteon SEL-Premium back in Fed/March 2021 but ended up going with an Audi S4 for about $25/mo more. Back then, the 3 yr/36K residual was 49 or 50% and the money factor was essentially zero (0.48% interest rate). My selling price was about $8,300 below MSRP but the payment still seemed high because of the terrible residual value. I leased the S4 for 59% residual with 1% added with AudiCare. I think you’ll find that purchase at a significant discount is the only way to go with the Arteon with the poor residual.

By the way, I’m thinking about getting a leftover 2023 Arteon SEL-Premium even now. It’s just a lovely looking car and the 300 hp engine and DSG fix my main issues with the 2021 version. VW of America scrapped plans to offer a 2024 Arteon, so 2023 is the final model year.
