Hey hackrs! I found a Golf Autobahn I’m interested in (nor-cal). I know inventory is bad right now. But before I make a call and try to negotiate do you think asking 4-5% off MSRP too much?
I’m trying to gauge what would realistically be the lowest without essentially being insulting to the salesperson.
Today’s mkt 4-5% discount off msrp is a good deal. GTI Autobhan is the top of line model .
3 yr back I got 2018 GTI S at 9.5% discount off msrp. Had I pushed more I would have got 10.5 % but finance dept pulled an old trick that my credit score is not good to get the advertised MF.
TrueCar is suggesting a 4% discount from the initial form - submit a request and see what you get back. You may have some luck towards the end of the month but no way to know for sure.
Historically the Golf never leased well (even when the market was good). The GTI was always a better “value” to lease over the Golf. The Golf was always a “purchase” over lease kindve thing.
That and this is the older MK7 body. We are not fortunate enough (yet) to get the MK8 Golf
In this crazy market, I’d look at other makes. Search the marketplace and get an idea of what other cars in this segment are going for. More than likely your best best is a Mazda 3
8 has some really questionable interior ergonomics. Everything is hid away behind a laggy infotainment screen and even the steering wheel buttons are “capacitive”. Id rather get the 7, while it’s available.
Yeah. I get you. That infotainment system feels like a super nintendo. But I got 6 weeks left in my lease so I can’t wait around for the mk8… and I don’t want a Mazda 3…And m235s are too expensive in this market for what I feel like I’m getting.
Yes the reviews of the MK8 are pretty lackluster. Car still performs of course, but they went cheap where they could. And the infotainment system is near dangerous. Gonna have to wait a year or two until they fix those bugs.
Too bad. I miss my 2017 S GTI every day. And bought it during the Dieselgate fire sale days at $8.5K off MSRP. I’ll get another one in 2-3 years.
Usually the GTI’s do lease terrible. But once in a while there’s a great deal on Swapalease so some people are getting good lease deals.
Is your current lease bad?
If it is better than this one, then see if you can extend it?
And make sure the warranty is into the extension, sometimes they aren’t.
@forbs. Nope. Lease is great. I already extended it 2 months hoping to ride out the shortage but it’s not going to end anytime soon. This is the end of the line. I don’t want to buy it out either. I think the 440i is too big. I want to go back to a smaller car (I had a 228i before this one). So i’m weighing what I want vs what i can get.
